Small Business Is Key to Saving the Economy
They provide 90 percent of all net new jobs, and are the building blocks out of a recession.

he left and the media have worked hard to paint the picture that big business equals evil business. I don’t subscribe to their policy of blind vilification.
But while big business plays an important role in
America, we are a country that runs on the fuel of small business. This makes a lot of sense considering the value that our founders assigned to personal liberty and entrepreneurship. While the rest of the world has always tried to figure out how a chosen few at the top can design the perfect lives for everyone else, we let individuals push us toward greatness. Since small business provides
Democratic strategists still insist with straight faces that “we do have excellent numbers on job creation” and the president somehow concocts the delusion that “the private sector is doing fine.” Pointing out the truth about Obama’s economic record
only goes so far. Conservatives understand that solutions don’t come from the government. We must act. About a year ago, I spent some time really thinking
about that. My conclusion was to address the one advantage big business has: the ability to get its message out. Giant companies have giant advertising budgets. But the store down the street doesn’t have the balance sheet to support that. That’s why we’ve launched the Marketplace at
Markdown.com. The idea is to find companies that not only provide
90 percent of all new net jobs, it’s no surprise that even the left pays lip service to it. Barack Obama says small business is “the backbone of our economy and the cornerstones of our communities.” Of course, I would agree with him — if there was even
the slightest possibility that one syllable of that sentence was sincere. Obama has been systematically making life difficult
for small businesses, even while the nation’s job market remains dismal. With unemployment over 8 percent,

great products, but also share American values; to give great small businesses access to great big audiences; and let them compete for your hard-earned cash without a dime of government funding. You might notice that this
approach differs slightly from the Solyndra model, whereby Obama promised to create thousands of jobs by gambling with billions of your dollars. You’re never as careful with someone else’s cash as you are with your own. That’s something that small business owners uniquely understand. Conservatives don’t take money from unwilling participants and
gamble with it. We don’t just sit back and complain about big businesses and the way they are sometimes influenced by government ties and pressure groups. We move on our own, spend our dollars wisely, and eventually we turn today’s small businesses into tomorrow’s big ones. When that happens, the economy heals itself, and the left gets a whole new crop of Walmarts to whine about.
