Day in the life

12.30pm We spend some time quoting for the work we are interested in, and calling some service users to book appointments for assessments.

13.00-13.30pm Jacqui and I stop for a well-deserved sandwich.

13.30-15.30pm I catch up on my emails, talk to staff about how their morning has gone, and if there are any changes in the service users’ health or requirements. One staff member tells me that one of her service users would like us to go in every morning and help with personal care and breakfast.

16.00pm Jacqui visits the service user to complete a new assessment and confirm the exact needs.

24 hour Supreme

Pam Cuthbert, of Supreme Home Care Bromsgrove and Redditch, reveals her typical working day

6.00am The day starts with a shower and breakfast, nice brisk walk with my little dog and back to the office.

8.00am I am on call so there may be emergencies to deal with, so I put on my overalls and go out with another member of staff to deliver personal care to an extremely ill service user.

9.00am We are on our way and the on-call phone rings, it’s the inspector from the Care Quality Commission, this is our governing body, and she has arrived for an unannounced spot check. I ask her to wait until I return…

10.30am Back at my office we start on our check, first calling Supreme Home Care in Telford to speak to director of care Jacky Earnshaw about the inspector’s unannounced visit. I am reassured as usual by the support

and back up offered by head office who are always at the end of the phone 24/7 for any worries or problems that I encounter.

12.00pm Check over, (phew) all is well! Time for a coffee, and to catch up with my care manager, Jacqui, who has been fielding calls and taking enquiries.

16.30pm I put on the overalls again to cover for my member of staff who is sick, we cover three calls and are back home for 19.00pm.

19.00pm Jacqui is on call tonight, so nice to unwind cooking a meal and drinking a nice glass of chilled white wine.

19.30pm Several calls from different people at Telford, asking how things went, and congratulating us on getting through our first inspection, the team at Telford are a great inspiration to me. n
