Molly Maid helps clean ‘Dirty Britain’

 Domestic cleaning franchise Molly Maid recently featured in the ITV1 documentary ‘Dirty Britain’, exposing the remarkable things found behind the nation’s front doors and following those dedicated to the job of cleaning up the UK. The producers spent two days filming behind the scenes with a team

from Molly Maid Wimbledon and the franchise owner, Sandra Redmond, in different homes each providing character-led and anecdotal references on how the maids rise to the daily challenge of meeting differing customer expectations.

Pam Bader OBE, CEO of Molly Maid commented: “We were very proud to be approached to take part in such a high-profile programme highlighting the great work some people do for which they often receive little recognition and are often taken for granted. We are proud of the service and quality that our maids provide to customers whose needs and expectations vary so widely and that is what we are all about.”

Maarten van der Velde has been in the hospitality industry for his whole career. After studying hotel management in his native country Holland, he moved to the UK and has enjoyed a varied career working in London and Brussels for Conrad Hotels, Michael Caines’ Abode hotels as well as luxury chalet and hotel operators in the Alps and Saint-Tropez. But, he says, Brighton’s where his heart is and he was keen to start a business in the place where he lives.

He said: “Having spent my whole

career in hospitality, I knew I wanted to set up a business in this industry, but with support from a franchisor. While researching online, Jasper’s really appealed to me – I like the ethos of the business and the approach to customer service. I have spent more than 20 years working at excelling in customer service and I am very passionate about it. I believe this sets Jasper’s apart as a business – it’s something they believe in and is evident in everything from their customer guarantee, to their online ordering system and the training they provide their staff.” Jasper’s Corporate Catering Brighton opened on May 14, providing hot and cold delivered catering for business meetings, training courses, lunches and other corporate events.

Today: Following the success of my first store, I took on a second in Worksop in 2009. I am also dedicated to supporting my local community and last year was presented with a Derbyshire Education Business Partnership Award for my work with Parkside Community School. Franchising is ideal for people like me who want a change of career and to run their own business. My franchise gives me the flexibility to work around family commitments and be my own boss – something I’d always wanted to do.

Started out: I held positions in the Navy as an aircraft engineering artificer and latterly, as a chief petty officer. On leaving I attended a franchise exhibition, drew up a shortlist and narrowed it down based on figures and feasibility. I chose Domino’s as it offered the greatest potential financial rewards and future opportunities. Having completed Domino’s franchise development programme, and with the support of head office, I opened my first store in Chesterfield in 2004. I built up a vast range of transferable skills in the Navy. The management and leadership training I received was second to none and has been very useful in running my stores. The Navy taught me the importance of fun, humour and camaraderie, which I try to maintain among my team. Team- building activities have also been extremely useful and helped me to achieve excellent staff retention rates.
