INDUSTRY NEWS COMMENT: THE G-CLOUD PROJECT Jason King

THE Government’s approach to the procurement process for the G-Cloud project has been a breath of fresh air. It surpassed expectations for receiving bids from contractors and was able to select a range of providers, all with different strengths. This has opened up huge windows of opportunity for our partners as they

look to showcase their innovative technology to public sector procurement teams that have traditionally been out of reach. The G-Cloud is the biggest private cloud project that the UK has ever seen and it’s an enormous opportunity for the public sector to transform its computing landscape and cost base by involving smaller organisations and opening up the competition, resulting in reduced costs and increased innovation for everyone. Of course, we’re thrilled to be directly involved in the CloudStore as well. We’re making our virtual infrastructure services available to the public sector through the CloudStore and supporting it with our nationwide fibre optic network. However, this is just one part of our involvement. What’s critical is that our partners have the support they need from us in order to deliver their services effectively to the public sector. We take that role very seriously and are constantly looking at ways to make our expertise, network and technology accessible to our partners, as well as supporting them directly in promoting their services. Some organisations will be looking to businesses such as us to support their innovative ideas with experience in delivering public sector services. It’s great to see the Government working with new, cutting edge, niche organisations, and it’s now up to us to ensure that those businesses have all the tools and infrastructure they need to become successful in the public sector.

Gray attributes the firm’s suc- cess to a combination of value for money, 12 month contracts across all packages and flexible month by month bolt-ons.
