It’s Game On for Olympics cleaning team
The world’s best athletes will expect the world’s best facilities when they gather in London for the 2012 Olympics
this summer. And SYR will be playing its part with world-class cleaning equipment to ensure there are no slip-ups – quite literally! Power Hygiene and Safety Products Ltd will be providing SYR
systems for use at Barking Abbey School, which is a ames- Time Training enue. It is one of 25 venues across the country going through multi-million pound refurbishments to bring them up to Olympic standards. ames-Time Training enues will be used by athletes from
more than 200 countries to help them train and make final prepa- rations just before and during the Olympic and Paralympic games. Barking Abbey School – which was named Specialist Sports College of the Year 2011 by the Daily Telegraph – will be hosting basketball teams. The school is the only Regional Institute for Basketball in the country, recognised and promoted by England Basketball.
SYR distributor sales director John Cook said: “They were looking at a manual cleaning spec after machine tests threw up problems with wheels marking the court, rotary pads removing court markings and the manoeuvrability of the machines being highly affected by the finish of the floor. “It was imperative the systems and products we demonstrated
had to provide the standard of cleaning demanded by the occa- sion.” Minimum moisture cleaning is essential for the basketball court
with large applications of water and chemical forbidden. Any spillages need to be dealt with immediately.
Trialled John and SYR Taskforce member Dawn Inchley demonstrated
two systems – Rapid Mop, and the Ultimate Mopping System of SYRsorb and flat mopping. The Barking Abbey team of estate manager David ladden
and cleaning supervisor Wendy ladden, along with Ben who is assigned with cleaning the court, trialled the equipment and learned how to get the best out of each system. John said: “They were all very pleased
at how the SYR equipment works, how it felt to use in practice, and the results on the floor – in particular the lack of moisture and how, with water and microfibre, the Rapid Mop removed the toughest rubber scuffs and stains.” Wendy ladden commented: “I have
seen numerous versions of the Rapid Mop concept, but this by far feels the most effective and user-friendly I’ve trialled myself.” David ladden added: “It is absolutely
ideal for minimum moisture, I’m im- pressed with how dry that floor is.” And Ben said: “The Rapid Mop is
exactly what we have been looking for to clean the court.”
The team at Barking Abbey School trialled the equipment including the minimum moisture mopping combo.
Concerns over CQC
The performance of the Care uality Commission has been branded ‘a failure’ by a cross-party group of MPs. Englands health and social care regulator still has a ‘long way
to go’ before it is up to scratch, says the Commons Public Accounts Committee. CC head Cynthia Bowers announced in ebruary that she
would stand down from her role in the autumn, after almost four years in the post, following a series of critical reports. While MPs said they still had concerns about the regulator, set
up in 2009 from the merger of three organisations, the CC said it had made ‘significant improvements’ in recent months.

hygiene, healthcare, paper disposables and safety equipment to schools, local authorities and the overnment. A loyalty customer, it has distributed SYR products for more than a decade, and last autumn the two companies began donating free cleaning equipment to Libya as it started to rebuild after six months of revolution. Barry armbrill from Power Hygiene commented on how im-
pressed the Barking Abbey team had been with the new Ultimate Combine for use with SYRsorb mops and microfibre flatmops, purchasing the system for other areas of the centre. To arrange a test of the Rapid Mop, Ultimate Combines or any other SYR equipment, email

lBarking Abbey School is not the only customer to be impressed by SYR’s Rapid Mop. ollowing trials ISS said it was ‘easy to use and fill, and light-
weight,’ while Sodexo commented: ‘The Rapid Mop was well received by our trial sites and as a result we have now intro- duced it within our cleaning offers to support Sodexo’s innova- tive approach to daytime cleaning.’
Conference will focus on shake-up of NHS
The Association of Health Care Professionals’ annual confer- ence takes place at Telford International Centre on June 11 to 13.
The conference will focus on the fundamental changes to the health service set to take place over the coming year.
It will look at how setting trusts, Ps and the private sector against each other will affect cleaning services, and how healthcare cleaning teams will need to develop to meet the new challenges.
