to recent changes in Choctaw Electric Cooperative’s storm shelter financing, a safe in-ground storm shelter is affordable for many members who thought they couldn’t afford it.

According to Jennifer Boling, coordinator of CEC’s storm shelter loans, the cost to purchase, deliver and install a new storm shelter varies from $2,775 to $3,000 depending on the area. “Members now have the option to payoff their loan in 36, 48, 60 or 72 months,” Boling said. “At six percent interest, most members can find an option that fits their monthly budget, Some as low as $45.99 per month.”


Loan payments are itemized on CEC’s monthly electric bill. To qualify, members must have a good payment history with the co-op of 12 months or more.
