maguire’s mgF offers more

US-based ancillary equipment maker Maguire has updated its MGF gravimetric blender for colorant and additive metering, claiming improved accuracy and near doubling of throughput. The improvements are the

result of the company’s decision to replace the continuous-rotation electric motor on the feeding auger with a new stepper type. It says this offers 200 incremen- tal steps on each rotation and can provide a maximum speed of 100rpm. In conjunction with the

digital controller, the stepper motor delivers much better resolution, says Maguire. The

The Datacolor 45G is the latest hand-held spectropho- tometer from colour measurement specialist Datacolor.

The unit is said to be able

to determine a precise numerical specification of any colour, capturing the effect of base colour variation as well as gloss and texture of the surface. For instance, it is possible to measure changes in the appearance of injection moulded parts due to wear of the mould surface before they exceed customer acceptance limits. “With 45G, product

speeds also means that output rates are up to 18kg per hour in injection moulding applica- tions (54kg an hour for continuous applications such as extrusion). “The finer resolution adds

to the intrinsically greater accuracy of our gravimetric feeder in comparison with volumetric devices, increasing the ability of moulders and extrusion processors to reduce colour and additive consump-

blender is priced at 35% less than most of its competitor’s gravimetric equivalents. ❙ www.maguire.com

Austrian machinery maker Engel has launched a new Gasmelt control module designed to simplify the use and application of gas assisted moulding technology. Developed together with Bauer Kompressoren - Engel’s exclusive system partner in gas moulding - the new Gasmelt control unit fully integrates into machine maker’s CC200 control system and now provides leakage monitoring as a standard feature. This will alert the operator in the event of the pressure moving outside of pre-determined operating limits. Engel says following the

expiry of some of the key gas moulding patents at the beginning of last year, the technology is now gaining new interest from moulders keen to exploit benefits such as flexibility in design and reduced warpage.

colour and gloss in a single convenient package,” says Bob Karpowicz, product manager for instruments at Datacolor. “Manufacturers can benefit

tremendously from using the 45G for batch-to-batch quality control. reliable measure- ments with 45G can enable a data-driven quality process through the supply chain.”

The 45G is supplied with built-in software that can store standards and batches, calculate colorimetric values, and indicate pass/fail results in QC environments. It also integrates with Datacolor’s desktop software for standard synchronising and QC report generation. ❙ www.datacolor.com
