US-based Elastocon TPE Technologies has expanded its range of thermoplastic elastomers for over- moulding onto polyamides with two new grades. Elastocon STK56PA is a
natural grade that can be coloured to suit the applica- tion; STK56PA-B is a black coloured version. Both offer a Shore A hardness value of 60 and provide a dry, soft-touch surface effect. The company is targeting

Styron has expanded its Pulse family of PC/ABS blends for the automotive industry with the introduction of two new grades – Pulse GX70 and GX90 – targeted at demanding

parts such as centre consoles, pillar trims, instrument housings and ventilation system components that may be highly exposed to sunlight. The GX90 grade offers even
more thermal performance along with improved low temperature ductility. It is targeted at upper pillar trims. ❙

Additives Additive eases preform heating
Colormatrix has published results of a comparative study carried out by French PET bottle blow moulding machinery maker Sidel showing its Joule RHB reheat additive provides significantly higher carbon footprint reduction than commercial carbon black-based reheat resins.
The study compared resin
containing 5ppp of Joule RHB-2 with a commercial reheat resin containing 5ppm of carbon black and a standard commercial PET preform grade. It found that the Joule RHB-2 provided a significant improvement in infrared energy absorption, allowing energy savings of 19% over the commercial carbon black reheat resin
and 38% over standard PET. Colour and clarity was not compromised. “Sidel’s study shows that
PET processors can derive wide-ranging benefits from Joule RHB without any significant compromise on the colour or clarity of their products,” says Ian Appleyard,
ColorMatrix’s PET resins global market manager. He says Joule RHB’s blue
coloration also helps mask yellowness in recycled resin, while 100% of its reheat capacity is maintained throughout the recycle stream. Joule RHB is available as a 10% liquid dispersion in ethylene glycol and is suitable for use in all PET process technologies. It is FdA and EU food contact approved for use in PET bottle resins and is typically added at 2 – 10 ppm depend- ing on container type, size and thickness. ❙

emissions. Luxus estimates that weight savings of around 20kg per car could be realised if all talc-filled PP parts were replaced with the new compound. “We have been delivering
high performance polymer with recycled content in interior trim
grades for many years,” says Peter Atterby, Luxus managing director. “We are currently piloting the new polymer with a number of major car manufacturers before it goes into general production.” ❙
