term resistance to heat, chemicals and pressure while offering processing and surface finish characteristics typical of standard polyamides. “Turbo systems are one of several technologies the

industry is quickly adopting to boost the performance of smaller, more efficient engines. The environment these power-boost technologies create is challenging the capabilities of many existing engineering thermoplas- tics,” says Patrick Ferronato, director of automotive, DuPont Performance Polymers. Lightweighting demands encouraged Turkish

automotive components maker Eurotec to develop a custom compound based on Vestamid HTplus polyph- thalamide (PPA) from Evonik for production of gear- shift levers for a European car maker. The part replaces a metal component. The company selected the Vestamid HTplus M1000

for its good processing and mechanical performance, along with its resistance to oils and lubricants. “This allowed us to offer the OEM a customised product based on their future expectations that not only weighs less, but is also more economical than the previous solution and brings fast production possibilities with

environmental friendly behaviour,” says Reha Gür, commercial director at Eurotec.
