Bargain seekers visiting the designer outlet in Ashford, in Kent, will be please to know their vehicles continue to be in safe hands after the car park once again received the Park Mark.
Over the past 12 months more than one million motorists have used the facility and only one vehicle related incident has been recorded. This is an excellent record, and one which has been sustained year after year.
The site is managed by car park management company Vinci Park, who have put very good management practices in place. The site is regularly patrolled by staff wearing high visibility clothing who also offer excellent customer care, good CCTV cover and
natural surveillance. The area is kept very clean and the surrounding landscape is regularly maintained so that branches and shrubs do not impede the CCTV, lighting and natural surveillance. In addition to the parking arrangements, other facilities available include customer information, disabled access and wheelchair hire, cafés and restaurants, a children’s play area, baby-changing rooms, tax-free shopping and child safe shopping.
UNIVERSITY RESULTS BOOST
The University of Essex (Colchester Campus) has successfully retained its three Safer Parking Awards following 12 months with only two relevant incidents recorded – a reduction of four compared to the previous 12 months. The site boasts a good standard of management practices, combined with electronic surveillance, good lighting and regular security and ticket enforcement patrols, plus a permanent police community support officer (PCSO) on site with regular police liaison. Typically for university campus sites, with a large daily turnover of vehicles and facilities used by staff, students and visitors, the amount of access can mean

security is difficult to manage. However, the administration’s belief is that all users can now be confident every effort is being made to create a safe and non- threatening environment. This is reflected in the low crime statistics reported by the parking department.
British Parking Association South East development manager Mike Bibby praised the parking team. He said: ‘I’m extremely pleased the university has shown its commitment to the Safer Parking Scheme, and all recommendations made following the initial assessment have been implemented, including installing additional CCTV cameras.’
