Bucking the trend photos by BEN RADFORD / VISIONHAUS At a time when sports sponsorship is facing a global

economic challenge, the World Match Racing Tour has grown in strength to strike a precious five-year partnership for Alpari to be the tour’s new title sponsor. Te partnership between Alpari, a global association of

companies providing online foreign exchange (Forex, FX), precious metals and CFD trading services, and the World Match Racing Tour is a perfect fit as the series has a global appeal with races in North America, Asia and Europe – the very same markets Alpari is looking at to expand its global brand in. Speaking at the launch of the partnership in London, David

Stuart from Alpari said: “Sailing is an interesting prospect for us and it came along at the right time. We were looking at a variety of potential sponsorships and it was the quality global audience that really attracted us to sailing.

“We’re looking at expanding the global exposure of our

brand, particularly in Asia, North America and Europe and the World Match Racing Tour fits perfectly with this strategy. I’m very much looking forward to the first event in Germany.” To mark the start of the partnership, a unique 3D street

art project, recreating a match racing scene of two boats going head to head in a winner-takes-all competition, was revealed in the City of London. Passing City commuters had their photos taken “on board” one of the boats. Te Alpari World Match Racing Tour begins in May

and will feature nine events in Germany, South Korea, USA, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Bermuda and Malaysia. Te Tour attracts the world’s best match racers who will compete for the ISAF Match Racing World Championship and the largest prize purse in the world of sailing (USD1.75 million).
