MR360° News: ISAF Rolex World Female Sailor Of The Year and US Rolex Yachtswoman Of The Year 2011
Second success forTunnicliffe
Anna Tunnicliffe became only
the third female to win the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards for a second time, following in the footsteps of Ellen MacArthur (GBR) in 2001 and 2005 as well as Sofia Bekatorou and Emilia Tsoulfa (GRE) in 2002 and 2004. Tunnicliffe claimed the title
for the first time in 2009 and was rewarded in 2011 on the back of another year of achievement in which she became the ISAF Sailing World Cup champion in Women’s Match Racing. Over the 12-month qualification
period for the Awards, the 29- year old only twice returned from a regatta without a medal. Over a decade long career, English-born Tunnicliffe, whose parents moved to Perrysburg, Ohio, when she was 12-years-old, has mastered Laser, Snipe and Match Racing sailing, collecting medals from all corners of the globe. “It’s so amazing to win ISAF
Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award again. I truly didn’t expect it this year. I was up against so many great competitors, so many great accomplishments. To win it and to hear my name called and to have my teammates here with me when we won is simply so amazing.”
