Simone
Age is no barrier to success and Simone Ferrarese, who
has been granted a full tour card for this season’s Alpari World Match Racing Tour, will be out to prove that this year. Ferrarese, who turned 24 on March 10, is among the youngest
skippers on the tour and his crew is the youngest ever Italian team to compete in the Alpari World Match Racing Tour. While others may see that as a daunting task, he is looking
forward to the challenge, although he admitted seeing his first season more as a learning curve. “We are the youngest ever Italian Team in the world tour,
and we want to get as much experience as we can, that’s the first goal. We know we can do well!” he said excitedly. “I think that every good result which comes this season
will be helpful for the future. It’s not easy to predict our performance, but for sure we know we are doing everything in order to sail in the best way.” Ferrarese is no stranger to winning despite his young age,
as the Italian shone brightly in 2011 by winning the Ficker Cup as well as the Master De Espana. He is currently fine tuning his team’s preparations for the
coming season to find the best solutions to put everything in place to ensure they will become as competitive as possible.

Did you have any sporting heroes when you were growing up? I’m a fan of Paul Cayard. During my childhood he was the skipper of “Moro di Venezia” and I’ve always admired his style.
Are there any others athletes you would like to be? No, none.
If not a sailor, what would you have become? I would like to be a surfer, I always enjoy the time spent on my board!
Career highlight? I can say that the whole 2011 season was a fantastic one because we have had some excellent results – victory in the Ficker Cup in Long Beach, victory in the Master de Espana in Bayona, Spain. We also twice achieved a place in the semi-finals in a Grade 1 event in Calpe and San Petersburg.
… and the worst moment? Our worst moment was a couple of years ago when I had to make a large change to my crew, and we found some difficulties in getting in shape together with a new team.
