3DS ACTION title Kid Icarus: Uprising can be the platform’s top new IP of 2012, Nintendo says. Despite the franchise being over 20 years old, with 2D platformers first arriving on the NES and Game Boy in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, Uprisingis a radical 3D reboot with Nintendo labelling it ‘the biggest new 3DS franchise’. “With impressive 3D graphics, landscapes and beautiful manga-inspired character design, Kid Icarus is a definite must have and must play for any existing


and new 3DS owners,” Nintendo’s UK product manager Danielle Robinson told MCV. “As one of our triple-A titles for 2012 it is receiving full marketing support across all media streams and is a welcome addition to the Nintendo 3DS software library, giving the platform diversity and making it truly something for everyone.” Nintendo has kicked off a


marketing campaign for the title, which arrives on Friday, March 23rd.


Ads are running in games magazines and on websites throughout March to drive pre-orders, with another


two-week push over the Easter holidays, targeting kids. TV ads will air on CITV, Cartoon Network and Disney XD. Uprising will also be promoted via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.


The game comes bundled with six AR cards and a 3DS stand. More cards will be available for consumers to collect and swap via Official Nintendo Magazine, GamesMasterand this year’s Nintendo Unleashed UK tour. LEGO OLD REPUBLIC TOYS LAND THIS SUMMER


THE LEGO Group is building on its range of Star Warsproducts with the first toysets based on The Old Republic. Two vehicles from the best-selling EA/BioWare MMO will be available from July 28th: the Red Talon Starfighter (right) will retail at £39.99, while the higher-end Fury Class Interceptor (left) is priced at £79.99. Star Wars: The Old Republicwas released for PC back in December.


Publishers flock to Gadget Show Live by Dominic Sacco


THE GADGET Show Live is ramping up its video game area this year.


Several games firms already have their names down to showcase their products, including Turtle Beach distributor Lygo. Namco Bandai and Activision will be part of Lygo’s stand with The

Witcher 2and Call of Duty respectively. Koch and Deep Silver will also be at the show with its Back to the Futuregame. The event’s Game Zone promises to be ‘bigger than ever’, with an over-18 section, competitive gaming, retro and kids games as well as competitions.


Video games café Loading will also be at Lygo’s stand,


as will racing seat manufacturer GT Omega and drinks company Equate. Attendees who buy drinks will be able to make a donation to games industry charity SpecialEffect. Lygo media manager Craig Morrow told MCV: “We are doing The Gadget Show this year. Turtle Beach will also be interviewing publishers and people will


be able to view these from its Twitch TV feed. But the primary thing is for us to tie in with publishers and promote our headsets.” There will be a Gadget Show Live Professional day for trade and the press.
