FEBRUARY was a bad month for games retail.
The crisis that grips GAME clearly had an impact on sales. As did the economic conditions hurting consumers. As a result, many of the new games in this chart – of which there are nine – failed to sell as well as they deserved.
Final Fantasy XIII-2fared best, reaching No.1 and pushing SQUARE ENIX into the Top Ten rankings. Metal Gear Solid HD Collectionat No.2 had a similar affect on KONAMI. Both games were released at the start of the month.
Elsewhere, the third in THQ’sUFCseries reached No.6, EA new IP Kingdoms of Amalurcrept in at No.10, 2K’sThe Darkness II made No.11, while NAMCO BANDAI’s Soul Calibur V reached No.13.
Last month saw the release of a new games machine, SONY’s PS Vita. The portable was only on sale three days when this data was collected, but two of its games have made the Top 50, with Uncharted: Golden Abyssat No.14 and FIFA Footballat No.26. As a key indicator of the type of audience Vita sells to, both FIFAand Uncharted were the most expensive Vita games on shelves.
