for completion in mid-February 2012, at which point the ship will be renamed Costa neoRomantica. The extensive makeover includes the construction of new areas onboard, including two half deck extensions, the addition of 111 new cabins, and the improvement of a further 120 cabins and
n August last year, Costa Cruises placed a €90 million (US$118 million) contract with the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard
suites which will now have their own private balconies. Te ship’s total guest capacity will increase from 1697 to 1800 and the number of cabins from 678 to 789. Interior design work is being handled by
the renowned Swedish company Tillberg Design. New areas inside the ship include a wine and cheese bar, a coffee and chocolate bar, a pizzeria, a cabaret lounge and a night club. Another addition is the Samsara Spa area, which will have its own dedicated spa restaurant. San Giorgio del Porto has also handled
another significant project for Costa Cruises in recent months, this time involving Costa Voyager. Previously deployed with
Costa Romantica at the Mariotti yard in Genoa.
Iberocruceros, the vessel has been through a €2.5 million (US$3.2 million) renovation at the yard. Tis work included the repainting of the funnel in Costa’s traditional yellow colour with a blue “C” and upgrading all the cabins and interiors in line with Costa brand requirements. San Giorgio del Porto is located in the
Port of Genoa and occupies an area of more than 33,000m2 5800m2
. Te yard’s facilities include of covered space and 1150m of
berths, as well as a machine shop with mechanical, steel and piping divisions. Equipment includes three bridge cranes and an additional quayside crane with a rated capacity of 20tonnes. SRCT
