Oonagh Clarke caught up with Holly Carpenter after her photoshoot for Christian Breton's new Retro Look Make-up
Oonagh: Currently being Miss Ireland, how important is how you look to your career?
Holly: With modelling your look is a huge part of it along with confidence and professionalism. I take good care of my hair, skin and nails and also like to change my look with different hairstyles and colours.
Oonagh: Tell me about your beauty regime?
Holly: I getmy hair done in Ebano. I have Easilocks hair extensions which givemy hair amuch fuller, healthier look. I also get regular facials and skin treatments in Reniew Clinic andmy nails done in Howth Haven. I also have to keep fit and toned so I train in the Edge in Clontarf and work out in Slender Health gymin Raheny. I use the sauna in the gymtoo which helps clearmy skin if I ever have a breakout.
Oonagh: Do you have any particular beauty problems or concerns?
Holly: If I'm dehydrated and working a lot, my skin can sometimes breakout. I do my best to avoid this as it makes the make-up artist's job easier the clearer my skin is.
Oonagh: Do you have treatments in the salon and if so what is your favourite?
Holly: I got a face peel in Reniew Clinic, which got rid of any dead skin cells and really cleared my skin and evened my skin tone.
Oonagh: What is your best feature?
Holly: I think I have good bone structure which is really important with modelling.

Oonagh: What would be your desert island product?
Holly: Moisturiser. I use a few different brands but I like E45 moisturiser mixed with a bit of Bio Oil.
Oonagh: Would you ever consider Botox® or fillers?
Holly: I can't see myself getting those treatments done any time soon as I'm only 20 but I may consider it when I'm in my forties. I wouldn't over do it though, I don't like the expressionless look. Hopefully I'll age gracefully!
Oonagh: Any beauty mistakes you will admit to?
Holly: I've had a few dodgy fake tan moments! Mainly by putting too much on my face or getting streaky or orange hands.
Oonagh: As this is an article for Irish Beauty magazine, I have to ask do you consider yourself an Irish beauty?
Holly: Well I guess as Miss Ireland I'm representing Irish beauty in a way, so yes.
Oonagh: Do you think Irish women are beautiful in general?
Holly: I think Irish women are gorgeous. Not just physically but I think we are a very smiley and approachable race of people which is attractive in itself.
Oonagh:Winning Miss Ireland, what do you believe is the secret to your success?
Holly: I've always been myself, been confident and believed in myself. When you're surrounded by so many gorgeous girls like I was in the Miss Ireland pageant it would be easy to start to compare yourself to others. I think that's the worst thing you can do for your self- esteem. And you have to remember while you're wishing you could look like someone they'll probably be thinking the same about you.
Oonagh: What woman do you most admire and why?
Holly: My mum, Jane. She's strong, beautiful and really funny and doesn't take herself too seriously. I'd like to think I've gained the same traits as her!
“I’ve always been myself, been confident and believed in myself.”
