Dear Irish Beauty... Star Letter
Dear Irish Beauty,
My favourite section of your magazine is the Education / Training pages. I feel that further education in our industry can sometimes be under valued by beauty therapists but I believe that it is vitally important so that we can offer our clients the latest treatments and help to educate them about the importance of good skin care. Your magazine helps to highlight the variety of training courses available.
I know that for many of us money is tight at the moment, but I feel that spending money on education is always an investment that will pay off in the long run.
Barbara Kinaulton, via email. As this month’s star letter Barbara wins a year’s free membership to AIT. Dear Irish Beauty,
Are you going to run any more articles on Retailing in Irish Beauty? I thought the one on Christmas (November 2011) was a good idea as it showed what products you could sell in the salon and I thought this would be useful to have for other times of the year.
There are three glass cabinets in our reception area - we use one to display our skin care for clients to use at home, but sometimes the other two cabinets are empty because we just don’t know what our customers would like to buy.

Ed: Take a look at this issue for our round-up of Mother’s Day inspired retail ideas. Throughout the year we’ll be showcasing lots of products suitable for retailing in salons, Spa and by mobile therapists - I hope you find these useful.
Dear IB,
When are you going to run information about men’s products? We have an increasing number of male clients, and although I enjoy reading your magazine, there is never anything aimed at our male clients, such as products or treatment ideas.
We’ve found advertising our services specifically to men has become very popular, and I would like to expand on these services, but am finding it difficult to get more information.
Beverley Johnston, Co.Wexford
Ed: Thanks for letter, Beverley. You’re not alone in wanting to increase your male clientele. In April’s issue we’ll be focusing on Male Skin Care, in May we’ll be showcasing retail ideas for Fathers’ Day and in June we’ll be tackling the sticky subject of Male Waxing!

Dear Melissa,
I love creating nail art, and I saw in your Christmas issue (Dec/Jan 2012) that you ran a step-by-step of some Santa nails. How could I get my work featured in the magazine?
Carol-Anne, by email
Ed: Thanks for your email Carol-Ann. We’re always keen to showcase the talents of our readers, so if you, or any nail technician, want to send in photographs of work you’ve created we’d love to receive it. Remember that we need any photographs in high enough quality to reproduce well in print (a minimum of 300 dots per inch) so it’s best to use a good digital camera rather than a camera phone. For a step-by- step like the one we featured in our Dec/Jan issue, we need eight photographs with accompanying text telling us what products and techniques have been used. If you’d like more information, email me at

Dear Editor,
I found Donna Taylor’s article on make- up brushes very useful (Brush Up, November 2011). I have a client who is very concerned about animal welfare and who had recently asked me about the bristles used in brushes. I had told her that I use a combination of synthetic and natural bristles but this article will help me to reassure her that the hair used in my natural brushes is combed or brushed from the animal, and is not fur.
Kerry Macguire, Co. Donegal I love Irish Beauty magazine because... Mary Ó Ríagáín, beauty therapist from Dublin
“I get to know what is new and I can learn about treatments that our salon doesn’t currently offer. I enjoy seeing what the magazine says about the products that we love too!”
