A recent Chairman’s dinner brought together more than 100 guests from around the franchise sector.


At the glitzy black-tie event the bfa chairman, Michael Eyre, also announced the four recipients of the prestigious bfa Companionship awards. The awards recognise the people that have made a signifi cant contribution to the franchise industry and the bfa. The winners included Melvin Lusty from Chemex, David Corbett from Signs Express, Penny Hopkinson from Manual Writers and Gordon Patterson from FDS.

The bfa is seeking a business development manager to drive recruitment and the delivery of services to members.


The Role


Self-motivated, with client-facing experience, you will be able to prioritise effectively, building strong rapport with a variety of people at all levels. Knowledge of the franchise sector is desirable but not essential. Full driving licence required.


Key responsibilities will include: • Planning and executing a client relationship management programme


• Pre-qualifying prospects so as to focus recruitment activity on eligible candidates


• Managing prospective member journey from initial interest to sign-up


• Implementing a programme of visits to existing members


• Increasing the attendance of bfa members at Association events


• Managing all client relationships including opportunities at bfa events


• Liaising with members to organise and deliver seminars.

The AGM was also a chance for Melvin


Lusty, former chairman of the bfa, to announce the new board and a special resolution was put forward to the AGM which increased franchisee numbers on the board from two to three. This resolution was passed with overwhelming support from the AGM. Sir Bernard Ingham, president of the bfa, closed the AGM with a discussion on the key challenges facing the bfa, stressing the importance of deliberations, the attention to the aims and ideals of the association, and placing importance on the relationship between the bfa

Chairman of the bfa, Michael Eyre chose to donate money to PAWS, having seen their work fi rsthand and the way in which the life of a family affected by autism can be improved by the addition of a well-trained dog, able to support an autistic child. Richard Holden from Lloyds TSB helped


present the cheque along with Michael Eyre in recognition of Lloyds TSB’s generous sponsorship of the Chairman’s Charity Day, which helped to raise the donation.
