ERIKS Integrated Solutions, a division of ERIKS UK, was chosen as the partner for a three-year integrated supply deal with Aylesford in 2009. Rotary vane compressor manufac- turer Mattei has received an AirSAFE performance award from the British Compressed Air Society (BCAS). The awards are given to those who have per- formed well within the AirSAFE register in the opinion of BCAS and scheme operators, Referenceline. Anderson Precision Gearing, part of the Pailton Engineering Group in Coventry, has been awarded a substantial manufactur- ing contract for suspension tubes to help extend the life of the Piccadilly Line fleet of motorised underground rail cars.The contract will run throughout 2012 and into 2013 and will help keep the existing fleet running up to 2022. This is a real boost to APG and its workforce and reinforces them as a major supplier to the rail traction industry. The contract is said to be the largest ever in the Scottish firm’s history.

Having only launched Mitsubishi’s high power laser processing machines to the UK market in early summer, Mitsubishi’s UK agent, World Machinery, is celebrating a sale of one of the near £400,000 machines, to Allfabs, a specialist in architectural fabrications, based in Stourbridge in the West Midlands. “The interest in the new machine has been phenomenal since our VIP launch day, and now we are seeing that interest translate into hard orders,” said World Machinery’s MD Wayne Hipkiss.

Draeger Safety UK has received the Logistics and Resource Efficiency Award from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Presented to Draeger as part of the national Manufacturing Excellence (MX) Awards, this is the second year in a row Draeger Safety has won, after it won the Process Innovation Award in 2010. Draeger manufactures life- saving safety equipment such as respiratory protection and flame and gas detection devices. Malcolm Irving, head of opera- tions at Draeger’s Blyth manufac- turing site was delighted to receive the award. See Inside Manufacturing event for engineers of the future Pupils from secondary schools


took part in a See Inside Manufacturing open day event at Schaeffler UK’s automotive engine component manufacturing plant in Llanelli, South Wales. The event was part of the UK Government’s See Inside Manufacturing Initiative, a nationwide ‘open days’ pro- gramme to help improve the image of UK manufacturing to young people, with the objective of attracting the brightest and best talent into a career in manu- facturing and engineering.


The event was arranged in con- junction with the local college, Coleg Sir Gar, and was facilitated by Schaeffler’s own apprentices and toolmakers. Pupils took part in an Engineering Challenge led by Schaeffler toolroom technician Gareth Gravell. The challenge involved pupils having to cor-

In order to make investment in equipment upgrades affordable, the Carbon Trust and Siemens have launched a new scheme to provide UK manufacturers with green equipment finance. This scheme will boost green growth and unlock business investment in the low carbon economy – key to economic recovery.


Enabling investment in such technologies as low energy light- ing, energy-efficient motors, low carbon air conditioning or bio- mass heating, the new dedicated green finance scheme will enable manufacturing businesses to invest in equipment which not only saves energy costs, but also helps improve productivity.
