he iSeries oil-free compressor from the Gast Group is a compact, self- contained compressed air package consisting of a rocking piston compressor and air receiver. Requiring no installation, the fully-automatic package uses fewer moving parts to help reduce wear, provide maximum reliability and minimise maintenance. Launched to extended the GAST and JUN-AIR ranges of oil-free compressors, the iSeries is designed for continuous operation and is ready to operate straight from the box. It can be placed directly at point-of-use or wherever a reliable source of compressed air is required. The three compressors in the iSeries range offer pulse-free airflow rates from 3.17 to 6.35 cfm (90 to 180 m3/h), a maximum pressure rating of 100 psi (7 bar), tank sizes from 4 to 25 litres (1.1 to 6.6 gallons) and motor outputs from 0.33 to 0.67 HP (0.25 to 0.50 kW). Like all JUN-AIR oil-free compressors, the new iSeries is vibration-free and extremely quiet, operating at just 66dB(A) as a free standing unit.

ovel fibre optic chemical sensors are non-intrusive, provide real-time monitoring Advances in high-performance sensor materials and optoelectronics have enabled novel optical sensors for use in applications in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food and beverage processing and more. Compared with traditional electrochemical sensing techniques such as galvanic sensors, Ocean Optics (www.OceanOptics.eu optical sensors can be made in small and customisable form factors, allow non-intrusive measurements and do not consume the sample. Ocean Optics’ optical O2 and pH sensors are designed for accurate, real-time, in situ measurements in various media. The proprietary sensor coating materials do not consume the sample and can be applied to substrates such as probes, self-adhesive acrylic

patches and microtiter wells. Coating options are available for general lab use, food processing lines and hydrocarbon-rich environments. Depending on the application, oxygen presence or pH can be visually determined by colour change with a handheld LED, or a fluorometer can be used to make exact measurements.

Mobile yardramp flexibility

ith a fast-moving supply chain vital to the UK's economic performance during the current recessionary climate, the flexibility of mobile yardramps are proving an increasingly

popular choice for safe, effective and cost-efficient loading and unloading, according to specialists Thorworld Industries. The Midlands-based company offers the most comprehensive range of mobile yardramps, which are specifically designed for the fast and efficient loading and unloading of vehicles and containers by forklift truck where a dedicated, raised loading bay area is not available. Thorworld Industries says that demand for mobile yardramps – which the company sells directly or rents via its RentARamp division – has never been higher, especially amongst small-to-medium sized manufacturers. Another factor that makes Thorworld’s mobile yardramps a particularly flexible choice is the company's RentARamp resource, which allows customers who may not want the capital outlay associated with buying a ramp to hire one instead. What’s more, there’s a sale or return option available which enables them to spread the cost of ownership or simply continue to hire.

Mahr’s non-contact MarScope measures complex turned parts in seconds

C

apable of measuring turned parts up to one metre long by 120 mm diameter and weighing up to 30 kg, the MarScope available from Mahr UK Ltd is designed to operate both in the laboratory and on the shopfloor. It features a telecentric precision optical system with a high-resolution camera that enables measurements of various characteristics to be made quickly and without contact. These characteristics include lengths, intersections, run-out, roundness, part axis, pitch, diameters,

radius, co-

axiality, concentricity, taper length, radius centre and widths of recesses or chamfers. A zoom function allows the measurement of small details such as bevels or small recesses, which are often difficult, if not impossible, to measure with traditional tactile systems.

The part to be measured is mounted

vertically between centres or special fixtures. When the fully-automatic measuring sequence is initiated, the camera located on the measuring carriage scans the part, acquiring millions of points every second. Measuring value resolution is up to 0.0001 mm and angles up to 0.0001°. Repeatability is 1.5 m (length) and 1.0 m diameter on clean, polished workpiece surfaces.

at Czech welding conference

ESAB Demobus

ith over 100 years of experience, a presence in over 80 countries and more than 8,000 employees worlrdwide, ESAB is the most recognised brand in welding and cutting. The internationally famous

W Vamberk Welding

Conference recently took place in the Czech Republic and ESAB took centre stage with the company’s all new Demobus.

The company’s

experts were available to demonstrate what is new in welding and cutting. Over 200 delegates and 30 lecturers took part in the conference, with two main themes being welding applications in power generation and transport. Ten welders took part in the traditional contest at the conference, with their theoretical and practical knowledge being tested. For the first time in the competition’s 55 year history a young woman won a place on the podium, reflecting the increasingly important role of female welders throughout the world.
