Products Lift trucks Filters eliminate exhaust fumes

The HT range of exhaust filters, supplied by Auto Extract Systems (AES), is said to provide a safe working environment where fork- lift trucks are used in enclosed spaces. They remove up to 95 per cent of all harmful emissions and odours and reduce mutagenic and carcinogenic substances such as POM and PAH.

New generation diesel engines are now more efficient than they have ever been but the emissions still pose a potential health risk. Exhaust fumes in an enclosed environment, such as those from a forklift truck in a warehouse or fac- tory workshop, can be extremely hazardous to health with lung cancer being a long-term effect in extreme circumstances. To give an idea of how small particles from new generation diesel engines can be, a strand of human hair is 70 microns thick. The human eye can see particles down to 20 microns thick. Ninety per cent of exhaust particles are smaller than one micron. Just because it can’t be seen, it doesn’t mean it isn’t damaging.

Electric truck for harsh environments

The HT range comes in three models: The HT 10, the HT 20 and the HT 35, each catering for different sizes of vehicles with a 100 hours to 200 hours filter life. AES sales director Darren Bell says: “The HT units are suitable for moving vehicles within a mul- titude of facilities. They are a unique way of extracting harmful emissions and particulates from a moving vehicle without the need for an electrical supply.”

The new Cat EP13-20(C)PN(T) range of 48V, three and four wheeled, counterbalanced electric lift trucks are now available in the UK from Impact Handling. Engineered to operate both indoors and out, whatever the weather, these new electric trucks are said to be more durable in harsh environments. Longer service intervals, reduced energy consumption, added safety features and quieter operation are all features of the trucks, available in lift capacities of 1.3, 1.5 tonnes (three-wheel versions) and 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 tonnes (three and four-wheel). The design is said to address the historical area of potential weakness for electric lift trucks, their ability to resist the impact of water and dirt. The new lift trucks all come as standard with IPx4 splash protection which protects the truck and all its components from water ingress from all angles to ensure reliable operation in wet environments both indoor and out. Dust protection is reinforced with IP54 sealed traction and hydraulic pump motors, while the wet disc brakes resist both water and dust. The maintenance free, sealed brake units contribute to the extended service interval of 1,000 hours. For particularly harsh operating conditions, as in the food and chemical industries, the frame and mast of the trucks can be galvanised, improving longevity and productivity. Energy consumption has been reduced by 12 per cent and both DIN and British Standard Batteries can be fitted. The latter give enough capacity to extend working time by as much as two hours. Safety remains the highest priority and the new range benefits from the PDS+ system which cuts power to the drive motors and hydraulics when the driver isn’t seated, preventing unintentional activation of the truck. An automatically applied parking brake and ‘ramp hold’ reduce accident risk. Noise levels at the drivers ear are said to be among the quietest available. First Fastbox installed by KNAPP L

eading warehouse automation supplier, KNAPP, has handed over the first installation of its Fastbox solution, designed to speed up the picking of fast-moving products. Unveiled at the CeMAT exhibition in Hanover back in May, the first Fastbox has now been installed at the site of KNAPP customer and third-party logistics supplier, JCL Logistics, in Werndorf, Austria.

AB 255 OneStep systems offer comprehensive solutions to fulfilment and pick and pack operations. By printing and indexing mailbags in a single operation, mail order packers see typical process rates of 480-600 packs per hour. OneStep systems can be fully integrated and feature in-built AutoTouch™ control screens that provide easy access to job set-up and storage for rapid recall.

is essentially a tall storage tower for containers, trays or cartons, served by the ultra-rapid lift module from KNAPP’s OSR ShuttleTM storage system. Any number of these Fastbox buffers can be located directly adjacent to the order picking stations and used to store fast-moving products, such as lines that are included in current promotional campaigns. The short transport distance from the picker and the ultra-fast handling combine to ensure maximum picking speed for these frequently required goods. Fastbox modules can also act as a buffer for order containers or as a means of sequencing containers ready for robotic palletization or route-optimised vehicle loading.

offices, HVAC, public buildings, test rooms, production areas and many other environments. A calculated dew point value is also available. The clear LC backlit display includes trend indicators to confirm when temperature equilibrium is reached which is essential for accurate and repeatable humidity measurements. Interface with a PC running optional validated HW4 software provides a useful data logging and charting function. Measurements can conveniently be recorded to the probe itself with a logging interval from 5s; data is easily downloaded to a PC running Rotronic HW4 software using a USB cable. Data is available both as a graphical display and in tabular format. Rotronic also offers the HygroPalm22 handheld with an interchangeable probe input for all HygroClip2 probes including industrial high temperature and pressure types with an overall measurement range of -100…200 °C, 0…100 %rh; the interface is digital.
