AIR FRANCE HAS EMBARKED on a Ð110 million revamp of its long-haul business class product and, in an attempt to compete with low-cost carriers, is launching 54 new European routes from regional airports. Air France has now fitted its entire long-haul fleet (including its A380s) with Premium Voyageur seats, and is
planning on retrofitting its old three-class super-jumbos with the new premium economy product. Air France-KLM has ordered 110 new A350-900 XWBs and B787-900 Dreamliners – the first B787 is set to enter service with KLM in 2016 and the first Airbus A350-900 with Air France in 2018. AMERICAN AIRLINES
AMERICAN AIRLINES signed a joint venture with British Airways and Iberia in 2010, allowing the carrier to dominate key business routes between London Heathrow and the US, and extend its network of codeshare routes. AA says its entry into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection will not affect services. The new schedules, which took effect in spring 2011, allow for near hourly services
from Heathrow to New York JFK and Chicago. These flights are operated by B777 aircraft with fully-flat Flagship Suites in first class, angled lie-flat business seats and economy class seats with personal monitors. AA placed the largest-ever order of commercial aircraft in July 2011, including 200 new B737s and 260 Airbus aircraft. Visit aa.com
