‘THE MOVE TO ELECTRIC HEATING – A STRATEGY FOR THE FUTURE’ Martin Orrill, British Gas
Martin Orrill has worked in the gas industry for 36 years in a range of engineering, operational, sales and marketing roles. His current responsibility is to assist in the development of renewable heating technologies within British Gas New Energy. He is currently
a member of the government’s heat pumps standards working group, a director of the
National Home Improvement Council, and an executive member of the Micropower Council.
He believes the potential for renewable
heating (electric heat pumps and biomass) in the UK is very significant and a ‘coiled spring’ of opportunity.

AN UPDATE’ Dr. F. Noble Francis, Construction Products Association (CPA)
With a Masters Degree and PhD in applied economics, Noble has more than 10 years’ experience producing economic forecasts. Noble worked as a senior economist for Experian on construction-related research, covering a wide range of topics, including construction employment forecasts for ConstructionSkills and construction inflation forecasts
for the Treasury. Since joining the CPA as economics director, Noble has overseen all the association’s economic publications, including the Construction Industry Forecasts that have featured regularly in The Guardian and The Financial Times, in addition to TV appearances on BBC News. He is a regular columnist for Construction News.
‘COMMERCIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS’ Lord O’Neill of Clackmannan
Lord O’Neill has just ended a four-year stint as chairman of the Nuclear Industry Association, and is currently president of the Specialist Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group. He is also honorary president of Energy Action Scotland and an honorary vice-president of National Energy Action. He acts as consultant to a number of engineering and
construction industry trade associations. A Labour MP from 1979 to 2005, his
posts included Shadow Defence Secretary and Shadow Minister for Energy, and he was chairman of the Trade and Industry Select Committee for 10 years. He has served on the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee for three years.

PRODUCTS’ Keith J. Smith, British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers Association (BEAMA)
Keith J. Smith joined BEAMA in 2010 as deputy director for the installation sector, responsible for facilitating BEAMA Installation product group activities and managing its world-renowned anti-counterfeit
working group. He has more than 40 years’ experience in
the electrical industry, having enjoyed senior management roles in global sales and marketing of electrical installation products for several top-level manufacturers.

TO THE CONSUMER’ Chris Ashworth, Chartered Institute of Marketing Construction Industry Group (CIMCIG)
Chris Ashworth has more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry. He held senior sales and marketing positions with blue chip manufacturers before founding Competitive Advantage in 1999 – a marketing consultancy implementing strategy, undertaking
research projects and providing sales and marketing training in a construction industry context. A committee member for CIMCIG, he wrote their latest report, called Taking Sustainability to the Consumer, and recently co-authored the joint ECA/NICEIC report, 2021 Vision: the Future of the Electrical Contracting Industry.

CONTRACTORS’ Paul Reeve, ECA
Paul Reeve CEnv FIEMA is head of Safety and Environment at the ECA, and an environmental advisor to the Specialist Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group. Paul coordinates ECA Group activity on the Green Deal. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, and
an adviser to leading certification bodies on health, safety and environmental issues. In 2012, he is chairing a leading Strategic Forum group on company carbon accreditation schemes. He is also the author of the popular textbook Essentials of Environmental Management.
