Anolis Renewable Energy is another early adopter in the green building services market. Solar PV has proved excellent business, and the company is continuing to grow into other avenues. ‘I really like air source heat pumps,’ says Anolis managing director Steve Harvey. ‘We are going to change our offices into a showroom for renewable technologies. We are going to remove the gas boiler and install an air source heat pump and run it in conjunction with a solar PV panel to provide back-up for the electrical element. There is a nice synergy between the two technologies.’
Domestic RHI While air source heat pumps have not been included so far in the commercial phase of the RHI, the position remains uncertain in the domestic sector. Contractors will no doubt be keen to see what is included when the government reveals details of the domestic phase of the RHI early in 2012. Householders have, however, been able to get grants for air source heat pumps under the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme since the summer of 2011. ‘We are hoping to see a generous package for the domestic
sector,’ says Thomas Mortimer. ‘We need a decent deal, not just a token gesture, because heat pumps are significantly more expensive than a domestic boiler.’ When coupled with the Green Deal, there is a lot for
