industry leaders to learn how 36,900 franchises employ more than 520,000 people in the UK, generating £12.4 billion for the economy last year. Talking about the franchise business


model, Caroline said: “There is a real hunger by our MPs to capitalise on what is a sustainable, proven and low risk option for many.” Mel Stride MP, who has a strong


entrepreneurial background across many sectors, including franchising, said: “The franchise industry continues to grow and the number of outlets and different brands have continued to increase; even in the face of some pretty tough economic conditions. A strong franchise opportunity backed by a quality franchisor can provide an ideal route for many to start their own business and take control of their future.” (For more, see bfa news, page 12).
