Bfa targets MPs
Industry leaders met with a group of 30 MPs at the Houses of Parliament to discuss the economic impact of franchising through sustainable growth, new business start-up and job creation.
The meeting was organised by the British Franchise Association (bfa) with the support of Caroline Dinenage MP for Gosport, to bring franchising ambassadors and MPs together. Brian Smart, director general of the bfa, said: “Franchising has developed into an important industry encompassing small operations run from home, through to large retail outlets, professional services and even international hotel chains. Its stability and success rate mean that it can provide an ideal route for many to start their own business and take control of their future.
“We have been delighted by the positive
response from MPs at the exchange. There is a real hunger by our MPs to capitalise on what is a sustainable, proven and low risk option for many. Our goal now is to work with our MPs to help open up information and advice to many more people that may at the moment be struggling to know where to turn.” Caroline Dinenage, the MP supporting the
reception, added: “I am delighted that this event was able to highlight the economic importance of franchising to so many MPs. With signifi cantly better success rates than other businesses, the franchise industry is key to promoting job creation, economic growth and an entrepreneurial culture. MPs will now be in a position to encourage this fantastic business model in their own constituencies.”
Franchise survey 2012
Research into the UK franchise industry is now being collated for the annual NatWest bfa Franchise Survey 2012, a report that has become the defi nitive guide to the industry’s strength, confi dence and growth, including the demographics, costs and insights of those in the industry. The bfa now provides all bfa members with the full survey free of charge from the member’s area of the bfa website. This is to keep businesses better informed of the industry and to say thank you for the ongoing support that these members provided in taking the time to be involved in the research. Tom Endean, marketing manager for the bfa, said: “It is at this time of year that the
research company BDRC Continental will be carrying out the research for this survey with the aim to prepare the results for a March/ April release. This vital research gives the industry the opportunity to truly understand the current condition and trends in the market and provides countless opportunities to raise the profi le of franchising in the media. We therefore ask everyone contacted to get involved if they can.” This year the survey questioning has gone
through some drastic updates to make the time required to get involved much less. The survey has only been able to develop into such a valuable resource by the time taken by the respondents and so it is vitally important that the support continues.
