Folding brand Terns to Evans

“Many of our customers run, swim and

participate in triathlons, and with race distances changing, the sport has become more accessible and inclusive. There’s a real appetite for getting involved. Chain Reaction Cycles is currently sponsoring the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships, plus loads of local races. As the shop establishes itself we’re working hard to be the first choice for cyclists, runners and swimmers.” Berkeley sounded a note of caution over

current economic conditions, but added CRC was working hard to provide value for customers – both in store, as well as via its online stronghold. “Generally business is good. As a company we continue to work hard to pass on the best possible value and service to our customers. There is no escaping the tough economic times that we are in, which is all the more reason for CRC to do our best to pass on value. Cycling as a sport and an activity is growing for so many reasons at the moment across the globe – in no small part because of recession, but also because cycling is healthy and just plain fun.”

High Street giant will also distribute folding line-up to interested independents

THE NEWEST FOLDING brand on the block – Tern – has secured a UK distributor in the form of High Street retailer Evans Cycles. Evans will carry the new line-up in its

45 stores and handle distribution of Tern bicycles in to IBDs. Tern is the latest brand to be

distributed by the retailer, following Norco and Pinnacle, among others. Cyclemotion’s Mark Bickerton told

BikeBiz: “I will be handling sales, marketing and after-sales for Tern in the UK. “We will be very carefully selecting the UK IBDs we want to work with. They will have to fit into the Evans distribution network, but generally speaking we’d be delighted to work with a folding bike retailer that fits into the structure. I hope we can continue some of our long-term relationships with them.”

The UK distribution agreement is the latest part of new brand Tern’s growing global network, which includes deals to bring the bikes to retailers in Europe, the US and Canada. “At the main stage at Eurobike, VP

Josh Hon invited Tern’s customers, suppliers, staff and partners on stage.

“Though each will have to fit Evans’ distribution network,we will be

carefully selecting UK IBDs we hope to work with.”

“Seeing the 80 or 90 distributors and

partners step up was hairs on the back of the neck stuff – the culmination of eight months work. It was great to have that level of support in such a short time.” Meanwhile, from January 2012, Raleigh will bring Dahon to the UK cycle trade, carrying a pared down portfolio for the first year of ten bikes. Dahon founder and CEO Dr. David Hon said: “Raleigh is one of the best- known names in the cycling industry and we are thrilled to have them on board with us. This is a great opportunity for our company as we continue to grow the brand in the UK.” Raleigh: 0800 096 9060 Cyclemotion: 01580 755633

distributed by Evans, while Dahon will be carried via Raleigh
