required number of CME credits. At Arab Health 2012, thousands of
healthcare professionals from around the world will have the opportunity to earn CME credits from education programmes sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic Center for Continuing Education and in partnership with Informa Exhibitions, the local congress organizer. For healthcare providers, these CME programmes represent a valuable way to keep up with the rapid changes in medicine. “To be an excellent clinician, one
cannot rely solely on a medical school education or even post-graduate training,” says James K. Stoller, MD, MS, a pulmonary and critical care physician and Chair of Cleveland Clinic’s Education Institute. “Excellent clinicians demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning, and CME opportunities, which offer the latest knowledge on a medical topic, are the most efficient way to stay abreast of developments in medicine.” Are all CME courses created equally?

accreditation are that the CME providers design content around gaps in practice, administer education effectively, track participation and regularly evaluate their programmes. Second, a quality CME programme should be free from commercial bias. “Ensuring that the information being presented is accurate, evidence-based and not tainted by bias from commercial sources such as pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers is an ongoing challenge,” says Dr. Carey, adding that the Center for Continuing Education keeps a strict editorial firewall between any commercial supporters and CME content development.
