only for a few days, which have since passed. This is a website you must re- visit, constantly. But there is a better website. The Northern California Golf

Association started its Member Advantage program in 2009. Through that program there are discounts on ncga.org that are found nowhere else on the web. Right on the homepage of Association website there are tabs for NCGA edeals, Mem- ber Benefi ts, Member Advantage and Youth on Course. Click on Member Advantage and you fi nd all the discounts a golfer could need. If you are not a member of the NCGA, fi nd “eclub” on the site and you will be a member of a regional Internet club in no time or join a club at your local golf course. The NCGA Foundation believes that no junior golfer should pay more than $5 for a green fee. The Youth On Course program was launched to help achieve that goal. Any junior golfer can join. At my home course in Alameda, the Chuck Corica Complex, every junior in the program pays $1 to play. Here are some of the best values I

have found in Northern California to save your mind from my fate. The best advantage any member of

the NCGA has is a 75% discount from the public fee at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach, and a member green fee that is 45% lower than the standard fee at Poppy Ridge in Livermore. These two standout golf courses are owned and operated by the NCGA.

The next best value

I found, with a couple of clicks, was The Links at Bodega Harbour, a wonderful course on the ocean near Point Reyes.

The Monday through Thursday rate of $60 becomes $50 when you present your NCGA card. Not mentioned on the website is that this fee includes a cart. This course should be walked and that would discount the fee by another $15. For $35 you can play an excep- tional golf course. Here are some standing values I

know from experience. In the early ’70s I Monday quali-

fi ed at Napa GC at Kennedy Park for the old Kaiser Open on the PGA Tour. While the scores came in I heard the same comment from all the Monday rabbits: “If I had a course like this to
