TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION

the ROTEX® GS Coupling range – GS Light and GS Compact – verifying their leading position in the power transmission industry throughout the world. ROTEX® GS is one of three backlash free shaft coupling ranges that KTR offer.

The particular

ompact laser safety scanners in the new OS32C range from Omron offer versatile and convenient solutions for applications that include collision avoidance for automatic guided vehicles (AGVs), intrusion detection as an alternative to safety light curtains, and detecting the presence of persons within the hazardous area of a machine. While fully satisfying the requirements of ISO 13849 for Performance Level d and Safety Category 3 without requiring the use of a dedicated safety controller, the new scanners are the most compact of their type currently available and are easily accommodated even where mounting space is limited. OS32C safety scanners use time-of-flight measurement to determine distance. They emit a laser pulse and measure the time it takes for this to return to the scanner after it is reflected by an object.

benefits of this design are the easy assembly and high power density of the coupling. The ROTEX® GS Light clamping ring hub is made completely from aluminium which reduces considerably the weight of the coupling compared to the standard ROTEX® GS. The ROTEX® GS Compact shaft coupling, available from size 24, can be up to one third shorter than the standard ROTEX® GS making it a low-cost design of the GS range.

KTR extend the Rotex® GS range T

he KTR engineers have extended their product portfolio with two interesting modifications of

ithin industrial automation, 90 degree angled M23 receptacles are used as a standard interface. They transmit power and signals between control units and associated system elements in many applications – such as drives, bus and measurement systems, vehicles and control cabinets. Hypertac’s new 90 degree angled receptacles are only 30.3mm high, making them ideal for applications with limited space.

The design has also been

strengthened and the shell weight reduced by 20% compared with the previous model. These ruggedized receptacles with a standard flange size of 25mm x 25mm can withstand the toughest mechanical environments. The new angled receptacles with axial sealing are available in layouts of 12-17 ways for signal and 6-8 ways for power

applications. When equipped with original and approved Hypertac contacts, unmated sealing is IP67. For signal transmission, pins with termination cross-sections of 0.14 - 1.00 mm² (AWG 26-18), and for power transmission pins with termination cross section of 0.5 - 2.5 mm² (AWG 20-14), are available.

coating, sealing and encapsulation applications. This UV system maintains excellent physical strength and low shrinkage after curing, as well as outstanding resistance to harsh chemicals. Despite the presence of nano particles, UV22 still retains high transparency and a desirably low viscosity without sedimentation.

M Master Bond offers a wide variety of one and two component

epoxy systems for bonding, sealing and coating applications. Special grades are electrically conductive, thermally conductive/electrically insulative, optically clear, NASA low outgassing approved and mechanical shock resistant. Master Bond technical representatives provide personal one on one support and have years of experience solving complex manufacturing problems and working with customers throughout the design and prototype process.

Tiny new 70 watt motor declared “Flat out amazing”

m

axon motor has unveiled a powerful new 70 watt addition to its popular range of brushless flat motors, boasting an incredible 38% more torque than the current 50 W version, from the same 45mm diameter. maxon's EC 45 flat series is already highly prized among engineers developing robotics,

self-

contained drives and industrial automation systems, enabling impressive performance within a compact design. The new, high power 70 W version further develops this strength, delivering 130 mNm continuous torque, at an efficiency of up to 85%, with an extremely flat speed/torque gradient. Remarkably, the upgraded motor features the same, proven flange pattern, fixation and socket that leading engineers have tried and tested so successfully in the existing 50 watt flat motor. The EC 45 flat 70 W is available in a choice of four windings (24, 30, 36 and 48 volt) and is available with Hall sensors.

Radically improved instant adhesive

L

octite 3090 is a clear, two-part cyanoacrylate that increases the versatility of instant adhesives.

In

addition to fast (20s) initial bonds, clear bondline, high strength and easy dispensing – this new adhesive allows exposed adhesive outside of the joint to harden within minutes without the need for a post-assembly activator.

Loctite 3090 also improves the filling capacity of

cyanoacrylates - gaps of up to 5mm are readily accommodated, and the gel viscosity means it’s suitable for vertical or overhead application. It can be used on plastic, rubber, wood, stone,

leather, fabric or metal and can withstand a force of 20N/mm2. Loctite 3090 is designed for the assembly of parts with varying or undefined bond gaps or for applications where complete cure of excess adhesive is a requirement. Easy to use, 3090 comes in a pack containing a dual syringe with seven mixer nozzles – and no application gun is required.
