IT IS predicted that the Ethernet market will grow by 113 per cent over the next four years, representing more than £1 billion revenue, with E-LAN attracting one third of that. More bandwidth is a must-have for organisations to support cloud computing, storage networks, telepresence and access to IP voice. The convergence of technologies is also driving the requirement to offer multiple services


over common connectivity. So how do you meet this growing demand for bandwidth while maintaining high level services? Wholesale Ethernet could be the answer. Wholesale Ethernet has traditionally provided nationwide connectivity to CPs in a point-to-point or hub and spoke configuration. However things have now changed with the introduction of E-LAN, which provides a dynamic any-to-any Ethernet configuration between geographically dispersed customer sites, and is supported over a full range of Etherway access options. Today these include fibre and Ethernet in the first mile and, when launched, Generic Ethernet Access (GEA) which will be offered as Fibre to the Cabinet and Premises options. E-LAN offers a solution for helping CPs deal with their, and their end customers’, increasingly complex traffic patterns, negating the need to ‘trombone’ all traffic to and from a central hub. E-LAN maximises bandwidth use, improves resilience, supports multicast communications and enables real-time voice and data prioritisation. Outside of the access circuits there are no set up fees with E-LAN. Pricing is based on a number of variables including locality, class of service and bandwidth options. It is a great value choice when traffic is peaky, resilience is required and sites are of similar importance but require different traffic levels at different times.

Boeree hails Avatar whiz


THE Chairman of Comms Dealer publishing house BPL, Chris Boeree, has presented a ‘Judges Special Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Industry’ to CAMERON | PACE Group (CPG) at the inaugural ConnectedWorld.TV Awards, staged by BPL Broadcast in association with IBC Connected World 2011.

Awards (held at the Okura Hotel, Amsterdam, September 12th) recognised CPG as a stand- out pioneer in 3D production technology and services, and celebrated the achievement of its co-founders James Cameron and Vince Pace in extending the frontiers of 3D globally and accelerating the broadcast industry’s transformation to 3D stereoscopic production. Ensuring quality and best practices is critical to the con- tinued explosive growth of 3D, according to Cameron, who wrote and directed the epic sci- ence fiction film Avatar. He said: “We are dedicated to providing quality 3D to broad- casters. At IBC, CPG announced its CPG Certified program, which represents and recognises 3D technology standards and prac- tices, ensuring the highest qual- ity 3D experience across all content platforms.
