104 Days on a 23-Footer The “2-23-58-104” Sail
Sounds more like a title to a story on football, yet each of the above numbers carry a significant meaning. So let’s start with the numeral “2”. With all the kids, now some ten years out of the house, it’s just Teresa, my wife, and I, so the “2” stands for the two of us. The “23”, well that’s the length of our O’Day 23, Fantasy. Then comes along the number “58”. Really this is the most telling of numbers. It is in inches and represents the amount of head room we have in our little boat. Okay, you say. So you can’t stand up, you’re only out a few days, maybe a week, right? That brings us to the last number, “104”. That is the number of days we spent aboard for our “summer” voyage. No wonder I feel a little like Quasaymoto. I guess if I had cut off my head I could have stood upright; and to think about it “104” days on a 23 foot boat without standing head room, maybe I did need to do something about my head.
