Greetings from area 7 As frequent visitors to Clark Island Marine Park, a
recent letter “The boat and the buoy are gone!” in your letters column was of great interest to to us here in area 7. Clark Island is a great little Marine Park, a popular picnic spot for people in the Western Whatcom County area and a good overnight spot for kayakers and cruisers passing thru.
The permanent rangers and temporary summer staff have always been polite and informative, and recently
a much needed super neat restroom has been added. However, Clark and some of the other smaller marine parks in this area seem to suffer from being in Sucia Island’s shadow by not being first in line for maintenance of facilities. In this case mooring tackle.
I am not trying to lay blame as I believe that the local
rangers are doing the best they can with what equipment they have and may need to stand in line for the use of equipment able to maintain or replace deteriorating moorings. There is evidence that there have been problems with moorings at Clark for the past few years. One photo shows
