FLYING AROUND... ➔ Transaero offers the only direct flights from the


UK to Yekaterinburg, flying daily from London Heathrow. Lufthansa operates a thrice-weekly service out of Frankfurt.


 Nizhny Novogorod Formerly known as Gorky, Nizhny has developed into one of the Russian Federation’s most important economic, transport and cultural hubs, and is a centre of the IT industry. There are no direct flights from the UK to Nizhny. Instead, visitors can connect with one of Lufthansa’s five services a week from Frankfurt or join a domestic carrier in Moscow.


India  Mumbai With a deep natural harbour on India’s west coast, the former Bombay accounts for 70 per cent of the country’s maritime trade. It also generates 25 per cent of industrial output, is the


site of many financial institutions, and houses the Bollywood film studios. British Airways and Jet Airways each fly from Heathrow to Mumbai twice daily, with Air India and Kingfisher Airlines operating a daily service. Lufthansa has a daily frequency from Frankfurt and Munich, as does Air France from Paris CDG. Gulf Air flies from Bahrain 11 times a week, Emirates five times a day out of Dubai, and Qatar Airways daily from Doha. In addition, Etihad operates twice-daily to Mumbai and Oman Air daily, from Abu Dhabi and Muscat respectively.


 Delhi With the seat of government in the New Delhi metropolis the city has a large consumer market which has attracted a range of industries to set up manufacturing units and headquarters. From Heathrow, BA flies to Delhi twice-daily,


and Air India, Jet Airways, Kingfisher and Virgin Atlantic provide daily services. Finnair operates


six times a week out of Helsinki, while Air France and KLM fly daily from Paris CDG and Schiphol respectively, and Lufthansa flies daily from Frankfurt and Munich. Flights from the Gulf are with Gulf Air from Bahrain, Emirates from Dubai, Qatar Airways from Doha, Etihad from Abu Dhabi and Oman Air from Muscat.


 Bangalore One of the fastest-growing cities in India, Bangalore is an ultra high-tech centre, known unoriginally as ‘The Silicon Valley of India’. As such, it is the nation’s largest IT exporter. British Airways flies daily from Heathrow to Bangalore, with Air France and Lufthansa providing the same frequency from Paris CDG and Frankfurt respectively. Emirates has three flights a day from Dubai, and Qatar Airways offers a daily service out of Doha, as does Etihad from Abu Dhabi. Oman Air operates three times a week from Muscat.
