The Review ➔ The return of the company car

GE CAPITAL Fleet Services' latest research shows that the company car is coming back into favour. According to its latest quarterly research, the humble company car continues on a path that has seen it regain its once all-important status among businesses now that we have apparently cleared the recession. Its research shows that the importance of the company car is now rated 8.7 out of ten for company car users, compared to 8.0 in 2010 and 7.2 in 2009. Before the recession, in the third quarter of 2007, the response was 9.7. During the survey, 45 per cent of

the 250 fleet decision makers surveyed gave a maximum score of 10, and 85 per cent a rating of 8.0 or above. Commercial director for GE Capital, Fleet Services UK, Gary Killeen explained the 'perceived importance' question as how

employers viewed the company car as a business tool and a benefit to employees. He says, “Since the technical

end of the recession, company cars have become more important to UK employers and their employees. We believe this is

partly a recognition that the company car remains the best business transport solution at a time when costs are still being scrutinised, but also because employees value the company car as a part of their remuneration package in this economic climate.“
