Legal, Legislative, and Regulatory Issues Disinfection and Sterilization: Meeting the CDC Guidelines

Each year in the United States there are approximately 46,500,000 surgical procedures and about 5 mil- lion gastrointestinal endoscopies. All invasive procedures involve contact by a medical device or surgical instrument with the patient’s sterile tissue or mucous membranes. A major risk of all such procedures is the introduction of infection. This webinar reviews recommendations to improve disinfection and sterilization practices in healthcare facilities to include endoscope reprocessing.

HAI Practices and Protocols: Adoption and Antecedents APIC, SHEA, and other related associations have collaborated to create the ultimate evidence-based hier- archy of best practices and protocols for preventing hospital-acquired infections. The Health Management Academy surveyed leading health systems to determine the level of adoption for these protocols and the or- ganizational antecedents predictive of successful adoption. This national study provides empirical evidence and insight into the keys to successful protocol adoption.

Infection Prevention Challenges in Ambulatory Sugery Centers: Strategies for a Successful CMS Survey

In 2009, CMS extensively updated and expanded the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) survey process. An important component of this update was a new emphasis on infection prevention, including the introduction of a new infection control worksheet to help focus surveyor inspection activities and reporting. This webinar reviews the required infection prevention elements in ASC survey and highlights those practices and clinical issues that often remain problematic. Targeted solutions will assist the ASC in achieving ongoing compliance and survey readiness, as well as reinforce a culture of facility safety.

Presenter: Marilyn Hanchett, RN 18
