Comprehensive HAI Prevention: Finding and Controlling the Sources of Resistant Bacterial Transmission in the Healthcare Setting


The presentation provides information on the comprehensive program that was implemented through- out Kaiser Permanente’s 13 Southern California hospitals. The Program established unique partnerships, improved environmental sanitation, and reduced transmission of HAI infections caused by environmental contamination. Successful implementation strategies, systematic changes, stakeholder engagement, and reinforcement/redundancy components are presented and illustrated.

Challenging Microbes—Practice Guidance for Healthcare Environmental Cleaning


This webinar describes the epidemiology of challenging microbes (e.g., VRE, MRSA, Acinetobacter, C. diff, Pseudomonas). Environmental Services (ES) tools for safeguarding the healthcare facility are presented, including education, agents, products, processes, and manuals. Content emphasizes that collaboration be- tween IPs and ES staff is essential as frontline infection preventionists protect patients, workers, and visitors from preventable healthcare-associated infections through consistent, systematic environmental sanitation.
