Eriez Offers Solution to Meatball

Problems with New Scrap Drum

Eriez Magnetics Europe Ltd has recently launched their Super Strength P-Rex Permanent Magnetic Scrap Drum. For many years electric motors or meatballs in shredder streams have caused problems for both scrap processors and steel mills. With the launch of this new Separation System, Eriez can minimise meatball hassles and maximise revenue opportunities while reducing the need for hand sorting. The P-Rex is a simple mechanical Metal Separator with no electricity requirements and low

maintenance. Meatballs are electric motors or armatures

consisting of a spherical steel shell with

copper windings inside, which are usually removed using large Electro

Magnetic Drums or by hand picking from the waste stream. When drum magnets don’t operate at peak performance, large sphere- shaped objects like meatballs can be near impossible to capture. Fragments of electric motors, alternators and other items containing copper, aluminium and steel are missed and money is lost. The new P-Rex Scrap Drum can solve this problem. With today’s electromagnetic drum magnets, a steel core is used to project the magnetic field. These cores generate a limited magnetic force at the drum edge because the electric coil that is wound around

the core takes valuable

space across the width of the drum, resulting in weak zones at the edges. These weak zones can amount to 20 percent or more of the surface of the drum. Because the P-Rex is a permanent magnet, it extends to the edge of the drum. That means wider and more efficient separation. Wider separation means greater profits through greater recovery. A further benefit of the P-Rex Drum having permanent magnets refers to temperature. Electro Magnetic Drums consume power and

heat up when in use. The higher the temperature the greater the loss of magnetic strength and in summer and hot climates this can be a problem. P-Rex’s permanent magnets are permanent, they maintain their strength. P-Rex lasts forever, uses no electricity and is very strong with an attractive force that surpasses the largest and strongest electro drums on the market today. When comparing P-Rex Drums to Electro Drums, P-Rex outperforms them by more than 20 percent during both hot and cold conditions.

Carlton Hicks, Sales Manager – Recycling commented, “Having the P-Rex as part of the Eriez Recycling product range has increased the Metal Separation capabilities of heavy ferrous metal to levels that have never been seen before. It enables better meatball recovery than we thought possible and will bring more profits to many scrap recycling operations.” For more information on the P-Rex or any other Eriez equipment visit http://en-gb.eriez.com or alternatively email info@eriezeurope.co.uk

863 Tracked compact mobile Heavy Duty Screener mesh or cascade fingers.

The new Terex® Finlay 863 is a highly versatile and adaptable machine engineered and built for working in quarrying, mining, construction and demolition debris, topsoil, recycling, sand, gravel, coal and aggregate applications where site space is at a premium. This aggressive forward facing inclined modular configuration screenbox has a 2755mm x 1200mm top deck and a 2755mm x 1200mm bottom deck. Depending on the working application of the machine, the screen box angle can be adjusted hydraulically between 14° – 18°. The top deck of screenbox can be fitted with a variety of screening media including; tines, bofor bars, punched plate and mesh. The bottom deck can be fitted with

24 Bulk Solids Today mobility very easy. A high performance 1000mm 4 ply belt

feeder, with hydraulic gearbox drive, is fitted to the machine as standard and has proven performance and versatility in demanding and varied working environments. The hopper has a 5m³ capacity as standard. The machine is equipped with three hydraulically folding discharge conveyors allowing for maximum stockpiling capacity and associated benefits of rapid set up and tear down times.

A Deutz 2011 49kW (66Hp) air cooled engine is used to power the machine. The heavy duty crawler tracks, and optional radio remote control unit, make on site

An additional key feature of the machine is hydraulic raising of the screenbox discharge end to provide additional clearance for screenbox and fines transfer conveyor maintenance.

The plant has the capacity to process at a rate of up to 250 tonnes per hour and can be fed either by a tracked mobile crusher or an excavator.

This fully self-contained plant can be hydraulically folded and ready for transport in less than 30 minutes making it the ideal machine for contract screening. www.terexfinlay.com
