COMPANY NEWS Steel drums lead parade of successes for FDL

FDL Packaging Group is poised to embark upon its fourth year as the official UK distributor for the range of steel drums and premium bespoke litho-printed drums from Mauser. For FDL, the relationship with Mauser is indicative of the way the company likes to operate: developing longstanding relationships that can deliver exceptional results founded in mutual understanding and trust. As FDL Packaging Group Sales Director David Scotting remarks: “Our close relationship with Mauser enables us to offer our customers the best possible service in addition, of course, to a top quality product portfolio of steel drums that perfectly complements our our trademark fibre drum products. In the final analysis, we believe that the choice we now have on offer is unique in the marketplace”.

As an additional service, FDL Packaging Group also offers customers the opportunity to have their Mauser drums printed using state- of-the-art lithographic technology. Ideal for premium quality products, where drums may be used in a promotional environment or need to display clear user instructions, the innovative printing technology used provides crystal-clear type and razor- sharp images.

“This latest technology really has taken the market by storm,” adds David Scotting. “Because the printing process actually takes place while the drum is still in flat-sheet form, the result is crystal-clear images and quite breathtaking reproduction. The remarkable quality of the lithographic printing has proved to be a winner for a number of market sectors not least that of premium automotive lubricants”.

Although FDL Packaging is, perhaps, best known for manufacturing its own innovative range of fibre drums, the company has also forged excellent relationships with other leading packaging manufacturers, enabling it to also offer comprehensive ranges in plastic and steel, providing single resourcing solutions to meet all manner of requirements across its incredibly diverse client base, ranging from the delicate small specialist containers used in laboratories to large bottles and drums for the safe transportation and storage of all manner of substances including hazardous materials. In all, FDL Packaging offers well over 1,000 different product lines from its four-acre Haydock site. The FDL Packaging service can accommodate direct full vehicle load deliveries, mixed full load deliveries and virtually any part load combination from stock. Mosca continues to climb with Apex Print Finishers

Corby-based magazine manufacturer Apex

Print Finishers has purchased an automatic cross-strapping machine from Mosca, underlining the company’s long-term satisfaction with Mosca quality. Apex Print Finishers provides high quality finishing for a range of publishers, and requires expert end-of-line performance to ensure that deliveries are made efficiently and on-time. The company purchased its first Mosca strapper several years ago and was so impressed that it has continued to buy from Mosca as Apex has grown.

In 2008, Apex extended its use of Mosca with two RO-TRP machines, offering automated strapping on the company’s two stitching lines. Capable of speeds of up to 30 straps per minute, Mosca customised the

RO-TRPs with backstops and presses to suit Apex’s needs for tidy, stable bundles. More recently, Apex has been receiving feedback from customers, expressing a preference for cross-strapping to deliver further bundle stability.

Initially, Apex had an

employee standing at the end of line to add the cross-strap using a hand strapper, but Mosca recommended the use of an automatic cross-strapping machine to maximise the speed and efficiency of operations. Apex has therefore ordered a Mosca

RO-TR5-D, which cross-straps at speeds up to 16 bundles per minute. Like all Mosca equipment for the graphics industry, the machine incorporates Mosca’s airless, all- electric technology, which eliminates the need for costly compressed air. The airless system is an extension of Mosca’s brushless motors, direct drive technology, which removes the need for a large number of mechanical components for long-term reliability and reduced maintenance costs. “Throughout our association with Mosca, we’ve found their equipment to be exceptional in performance and reliability, while the service and support from Mosca has been second to none,” confirms Dave Clark of Apex Print Finishers.

Mosca equipment, servicing, spare parts and strapping materials are available in the UK from its wholly owned subsidiary Mosca Direct of Cotgrave, Nottingham. Tel: 0115 989 0209
