New Intake and Waste Collection Systems at Silvery Tweed Cereals Ltd

New Malvern video highlights versatility of Parsum In-line Particle Probe

A new 3-minute video highlighting the versatility of the Parsum IPP 70 In-line Particle Probe is now available on the Malvern Instruments website. Designed to continuously measure the size, size distribution and velocity of granular particles, directly in the process, the Parsum In-line Particle Probe (IPP) is a valuable tool for process development and automated production. It has applications in many sectors including the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. To watch the video, visit http://www.malvern.com/parsumvideo The Parsum probe uses patented spatial filter velocimetry to measure particles in the size range 50-6000 µm travelling at velocities of between 0.01- 50 m/s. Easily fitted in line, or into a process vessel, it can be applied in

both gaseous and liquid media and is especially well suited to granulation applications, both high shear and fluidized bed. Parsum software drives analysis and streamlines the automation of plant control to deliver enhanced product quality and reduced variable cost. Remote system access makes possible easy observation and data reporting. Malvern has extensive experience and expertise in sectors as diverse as cement production and pharmaceutical drug discovery, providing a range of systems for laboratory and in-process analysis. Sensing Success for 40 Years

Synatel celebrated 40 years of British design and manufacturing this year. Formed in 1970, the company designs and manufactures electronic sensing, counting and control equipment including ATEX approved level controls, speed monitors and proximity sensors. To mark the anniversary, Synatel ran a year long competition to find the oldest product still in continuous service. The winner was Graham Bedford of Heygates Ltd, Bugbrooke, Northampton pictured here receiving a bottle of champagne from Synatel Sales Director, Adrian Morris.

The Synalevel probes in the background were originally supplied in 1984 and have been in service ever since. The Synalevel was Synatel’s first self contained level probe introduced in 1980 and has now evolved into the highly regarded Digimatic range of which more then 80,000 have been shipped worldwide. Synatel are convinced that even older products are still in use and would love to hear from anyone with such products. They

GAME Engineering Ltd, a materials processing and handling engineering company based in Lincolnshire have recently completed the upgrade and installation of Silvery Tweed’s grain intake, storage and handling operation in Berwick. The scope of the project included the handling of waste materials which oc cur from the cleaning and pearling of grains prior to further processing. The by product produced from this was creating health and safety and hygiene issues on site, however due to the new handling system installed by GAME these have been eliminated. The new outloading system has reduced vehicle loading times from 3 hours to just over an hour which is extremely beneficial for Silvery Tweed’s haulage costs as well as reducing labour costs. The grain intake system has improved vehicle unloading on a hygiene front by being undercover and also the speed of unloading by increasing the throughput from 20TPH to 60TPH. On the storage side Silvery Tweed now have the capacity to store in the region of 200 tons of raw materials where previously, only 25 tons could be handled. On the grain handling side, GAME have installed a weighbridge for the first time which allows accurate weigh ing of vehicles to ensure Silvery Tweed get what they are paying for from suppliers as well as weighing outgoing products; the main benefit being they can weigh 24/7 without having to rely on a public weighbridge being open.

The overall project was managed by GAME and Bob Gladstone (Managing Director for Silvery Tweed) states: “The overall project was managed by GAME and I incurred very little disturbance in day to day operations dur ing installation and changeover... I would have no hesitation in using GAME again or in recommending them...” Tel: 01522 868021
