Dixons has just launched PC games download online store


PC WORLD AND CURRYS may not have the largest games offer, but it is still investing in the space. Its most significant move was setting up digital game download websites.

THE ONLINE SPECIALIST runs several white label sites for online retailers including Tesco, LoveFilm and Asda. Its own sites – such as zavvi.com and thehut.com – stock a variety of products. The Hut Group’s games buying team has grown from six to eight individuals over the past 12 months, with Ed Leighton joining as head of games hardware and Alex Dantanus appointed games product marketing executive. Sarah Jasper has become head of business development.

WITH OVER 750 stores nationwide, Argos is one of the UK’s biggest High Street chains. It sells over 40,000 home products in total. Argos’ buying team has seen some big changes this year. Games buyer Justin Lennox joined from GAME while assistant buyer Ed Gregory moved across from Play.com. Gareth Morris was promoted within the merchandising team to buying assistant, while the retailer is on the lookout for another buying assistant.


Argos launched 24-hour home shopping channel Argos TV last month where it is currently trialling several video game slots.
