Back in the day


The Boat Oar


Getting fi nance from the banks was very difficult back then, and before Flair could get a loan to purchase a giant mixer machine to mix shampoo they had to use a boat oar to stir the product in the vat for hours!

During the renovation of the Flair store in the late 1970’s, Patrick found an antique porcelain jar when digging out the foundation for the new cash and carry. The name of the product he found was ‘Genuine Russian Bear Grease – to beautify hair’. He took this as a good omen.


The Phone Box


Flair had to wait two years for a phone line to be installed, which back then was the norm. Patrick had to use a public phone across the street to call or make appointments to see customers. Placing a lengthy colour order with his suppliers was fun as he continued to enter coins into the phone box!


Two generations

Hairdresser Kathleen Rice from Dublin kitted out her salon using Flair when she opened 24 years ago, and her daughter recently came to Flair to kit out her salon too! Patrick is particularly proud to have served two generations in this family.
