GRADUATE PROFILES
JODIE READ (Professional Dancer’s Teaching Diploma 2010) Since completing the PDTD, Jodie has been working full-time as a freelance ballet, jazz and tap teacher. She teaches for the RAD Faculty of Education, coaching students for Advanced 1 and Solo Seal examinations. She is Deputy Head of Dance at The MTA college in London and also teaches at Woking Dance Space (adult community classes) and at the Susan Robinson School of Ballet as a Jazz Teacher.
ALEXANDRA ELWOOD (Master of Teaching (Dance) 2011) Having graduated from the RAD with a BA in the Art and Teaching of Ballet, Alex began her teaching career working in private dance schools, primary and nursery schools and health clubs. Alex gained further experience as a dance teacher in a secondary school before completing the PGCE:DT at the RAD. Upon graduation Alex was promoted to Head of Dance. Keen to extend her knowledge and understanding of dance education further, Alex enrolled on the Master of Teaching (Dance), graduating in 2011. Alex continues to teach dance as well as mentoring trainee dance teachers in the private and public sectors.
STEPHANIE ROSS (BA (Hons) Ballet Education 2010) Having achieved her degree, Stephanie has gone on to teach part-time at one of the country’s top independent schools for girls, Wycombe Abbey, where she currently shares the role of Head of Ballet. Stephanie teaches RAD graded syllabus, free ballet class and pointe class to some of the ballet department’s 120 students. In addition, Stephanie works at the St Helen’s School for Girls in Northwood and in several private ballet schools in the London area.
SONIA NEWTON (Postgraduate Certifi cate in Education: Dance Teaching 2010) Since graduating from the RAD Sonia has worked as Dance Director at Point O’Pines in New York and taught dance and English as a second language at a local school and orphanage in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She is now back in the UK and is Head of Dance at Sedgehill Secondary School.
RANIA LEONTIOU (BA (Hons) Ballet Education 2010) After graduating from the RAD with a First Class Honours degree, Rania was accepted at Roehampton University on the MA in Performance and Creative Research. She is also taking the BASI Pilates Teacher Training course whilst continuing her work as a ballet teacher for Jane Tilley at Jdance Studios in Surrey and Kent.
ANNABEL SARRAFAN (BA (Hons) Ballet Education 2010) Having graduated from the RAD in 2010 with a BA in Ballet Education, LRAD, ARAD and RTS, Annabel was successful in gaining a contract with Images Ballet Company (London Studio Centre). Images will be touring the UK from May to July 2011. As well as furthering her performance career, Annabel has been teaching at Central School of Ballet, London Studio Centre and the Royal Academy of Dance.
JOHANNA THORPE (Certifi cate in Ballet Teaching Studies 2010) Since graduating from the Certifi cate in Ballet Teaching Studies, Johanna has continued to work full-time at the Dulwich Ballet School and has recently choreographed ‘Carnival of the Animals’, a ballet for young dance students. She is currently undertaking BDE101, Frameworks and Perspectives, and is hoping to join the BA (Hons) Dance Education, Level 5 in September 2011.
KAYSHA STOPPS (Certifi cate in Ballet Teaching Studies 2010) Having trained as a professional dancer, Kaysha’s career was cut short by an accident which left her with a long term injury. After an absence from dance, Kaysha decided to enrol on the Certifi cate in Ballet Teaching Studies which enabled her to study for a teaching award while retaining her job in the fi nance sector. Kaysha is now a freelance dance teacher in Dubai alongside tutoring and supporting the next generation of CBTS students. Kaysha’s long term goals are to establish her own dance school in the UK and extend her teaching into vocational training.
DAFNI MOUYIASSI (Professional Dancer’s Teaching Diploma 2010) Following a career as a professional dancer, Dafni completed the PDTD and is now teaching in Limassol, Cyprus at the Nadinas Loizidous Ballet School. Besides teaching, Dafni’s duties include directing the school’s annual dance production and coaching a young dancer for the Youth America Grand Prix competition. In the future Dafni hopes to extend the school’s curriculum by introducing a range of dance styles to enrich the experiences of the students.
CHARLOTTE PERRY (Postgraduate Certifi cate in Education: Dance Teaching 2010) Charlotte fi nished her PGCE: DT in July and started her fi rst teaching post in September at Clacton Coastal Academy in Essex, delivering dance across Key Stages 3, 4 & 5. She is hoping to apply to enrol on the Master of Teaching (Dance) in September 2011. Charlotte also teaches privately at her local dance school where she recently took a group of students to perform at the O2 Arena in London.
