STUDYING FROM YOUR HOME, IN YOUR OWN LANGUAGE CERTIFICATE IN BALLET TEACHING STUDIES
The Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies gives you an opportunity to study ballet teaching in preparation for a professional career. On successful completion, you will be able to teach ballet and enter candidates for RAD examinations anywhere in the world.
CONTENT YEAR 1 Observation for Teaching (15 credits) Health, Safety and Professional Responsibilities (15 credits) Ballet and Teaching: Knowledge and Understanding (30 credits)
In Year 1 you will observe children and young people and the multiple ways in which they learn. You will begin to develop observation skills which are essential in any teaching context and gain basic knowledge of health and safety issues in the private dance studio. You will also learn about the legal and professional responsibilities of the ballet teacher as they apply in your own country of residence. The first year also provides an opportunity to study the RAD syllabus in its entirety so that you know and understand how this work progresses from Graded to Vocational Graded examinations and beyond.
YEAR 2 Practical Teaching (30 credits) Professional Portfolio (30 credits)
In Year 2 you will study two modules across the entire year. In the Practical Teaching module you will work with a Mentor in order to develop your teaching skills, consolidate your knowledge of RAD syllabi, and engage in all aspects of the private dance studio environment. At the same time, you will gather evidence of your learning across all CBTS modules and collate this in the form of a portfolio. This portfolio is likely to include examples of your lesson planning, self-evaluations of lessons that you have taught, written feedback from your Mentor and any other assignments which you have undertaken as part of the CBTS programme. The Professional Portfolio will be used to assess whether you have met the criteria for registration as a dance teacher with the RAD.
DELIVERY This programme is part-time, enabling you to study alongside your personal and professional commitments. The programme starts in January of each year and is delivered over two years, with 60 credits studied each year. As a part-time student, you should expect to study for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
All students are required to attend an Intensive Study Period in the first year of study. This is usually held in the country of residence. All modules are supported by Module Study Guides and students are allocated a tutor for each module, with whom they will have regular contact by telephone, email or fax.
