STUDENT PROFILES
EMMA LEE Postgraduate Certificate in Education: Dance Teaching
PAST: Having graduated with a BA (Hons) in Dance from Bretton Hall in 2005, I worked as a teaching assistant, freelance dance artist and teacher. Following this I toured nationally with the Precarious Physical Theatre Company. The experience gained in working with young people influenced my decision to enrol on a PGCE course, specialising in dance.
PRESENT: I chose the RAD for its reputation as a centre of excellence for dance education. The PGCE: DT incorporates lectures, workshops and placements in school and has already provided me with opportunities to develop my teaching skills, subject knowledge and broaden my professional practice. Although intensive and requiring a high level of commitment, I am finding my studies extremely fulfilling.
FUTURE: I hope to teach dance in a school/college that values dance as part of its curriculum.
JADE HICKS Postgraduate Certificate in Education: Dance Teaching
PAST: I graduated at Roehampton University with a BA (Hons) degree in Dance studies. I have always wanted to be a teacher and after researching dance education for my dissertation I chose to pursue this career further.
PRESENT: Studying at the RAD has enabled me to develop my knowledge and understanding of teaching dance through both theoretical lectures and practical workshops. During my teaching placements, the RAD and School based Tutors have been very supportive. They have guided me on how to best structure my time, lesson planning and the completion of assignments. Although the course is challenging, the progress that is made in such a short amount of time makes it rewarding and enjoyable.
FUTURE: I hope to develop a career in dance teaching and put into practice all that I have learned at the RAD. My ambition is to continue to develop my knowledge of dance education and I hope to one day look at progressing on to the Master of Teaching (Dance) programme at the RAD.
MEGAN BROCK Postgraduate Certificate in Education: Dance Teaching
PAST: I graduated from Laban in 2009 with a BA (Hons) in Dance Theatre. My passion for dance has always made me want to teach and inspire others. My research dissertation based on successful teaching styles for dancers motivated me to set my sights on becoming an outstanding dance teacher.
PRESENT: I am currently studying the PGCE: DT and working on gaining in-depth subject and professional knowledge, understanding and skills to progress my teaching career. The taught on-site sessions really do make me feel fully prepared for my teaching placements. I particularly enjoy practical lectures and workshops as these are always thoroughly thought out and engaging. When I am on placements I really enjoy working with young people, seeing them develop and inspired by dance just as I have always been.
FUTURE: My ambition is to become an established dance teacher who makes a real contribution to a dynamic and vibrant dance department. I would eventually like to be a Head of Dance or Performing Arts.
