ROBERT LODGE BA (Hons) Ballet Education

PAST: I started my dance training fifteen years ago after being introduced to ballet from the age of three. As my knowledge and understanding of ballet grew, I wanted to find a way of furthering my own development alongside learning the skills I would need to teach others. The BA (Hons) Ballet Education programme was the perfect way forward.

PRESENT: My first year has given me the opportunity of exploring teaching methods and styles and how to apply these to different teaching contexts. I have also learnt how to analyse dance works through different perspectives including systems of dance notation and with daily technique classes I have been able to develop more fully as a performer.

FUTURE: With the worldwide recognition of the RAD, I feel my future opportunities are endless.

MEGAN CHRISTIE BA (Hons) Ballet Education Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance

PAST: My professional training began at Scottish Ballet Junior Associates, subsequently completing six years of full time vocational training at The Dance School of Scotland. Upon graduation, I decided I wanted to focus towards teaching dance, both from an academic and practical perspective. I decided to move to London to study full time at the Royal Academy of Dance.

PRESENT: I am currently half way through my second year of the BA (Hons) Ballet Education programme and feel that my knowledge and understanding of dance has been broadened, particularly in dance genres outside ballet. I have developed my technical and performance skills and am currently working towards the RAD Advanced 2 examination. I was fortunate enough to be awarded the Iris Truscott Scholarship, which has helped towards my tuition fees for the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance.

FUTURE: Upon graduation, I hope to return to Scotland and teach within the private sector or an educational establishment. I am also considering studying a postgraduate level qualification with the view of gaining Qualified Teachers Status to teach in secondary schools.

ASHLEIGH PITTS BA (Hons) Ballet Education Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance

PAST: Training under different syllabi, I did not take my first RAD examination until the age of 14. After dancing at the RAD for the first time and seeing the current students at work, I decided that this was where I wanted to study.

PRESENT: Being in my final year I can say I have thoroughly enjoyed my studies and have gained knowledge and understanding of different aspects of ballet and education, which I had never considered previously. The BA (Hons) Ballet Education programme has given me the chance to combine academic studies and performance based classes, along with self-focused research projects and training in the RAD syllabi.

FUTURE: My studies have opened up areas of dance that I had not even imagined were possibilities and I plan to combine a career in dance with a wish to travel. I feel excited about my future career in the dance industry. I hope I will be able to inspire my students in the same way my teachers did me.
