A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN RAD STUDENT


INA’S STORY


9.00AM As a student on the BA (Hons) Ballet Education programme, a typical day starts with a ballet or contemporary technique class in the morning. Classes start at 9.00am but for practical classes we start to warm up 20 minutes earlier. We often do the warm up as a group with a different person leading it each day to make it more fun and varied.


The lectures before lunch often combine theory and practice. Already we have learnt two different movement notation systems which are great tools for analysing movement and dance. We have also explored different perspectives of dance history and discussed different choreographic works. We have visited a range of dance teaching contexts and discovered how a dance teacher’s role changes depending on the context.


12.40AM Lunch breaks are always very


sociable. Either I eat in the cafeteria with friends, or we do some work together. During exam time, I tend to spend more and more time


studying but at least you know you’re not doing it alone! As the cafeteria is a central meeting place for all students it means you get to know people from other years and other


programmes. Lunch breaks are also very good times to book a studio and do some further practice or choreography rehearsals.
