Meet the Athletes
LAURA BENNETT
COLLEGE: Southern Methodist University
WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT IN THE SPORT? Winning Hy-Vee in 2007
WHAT WOULD HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO REPRESENT THE U.S. IN THE 2012 OLYMPICS MEAN TO YOU? It is always something special to represent your country at an Olympic Games; I would be honored.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT? Racing – because I love it! It is the most entertaining.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER TO ATHLETES CONSIDERING COMPETING IN THEIR FIRST TRIATHLON? Don’t do one unless you are happy to become addicted to the sport. Because there are so many variables, it is hard to get a perfect race, and in that the sport becomes addictive.
FAVORITE MOVIES: “The Hangover,” “Wedding Crashers,” “Notting Hill”
FAVORITE MUSIC: Black Eyed Peas & David Guetta
FAVORITE MEAL TO COOK: Sea scallops
FAVORITE POST-RACE MEAL: Cheeseburger and sweet potato fries

HOBBIES: Gardening
FAVORITE POST-RACE MEAL: Dirty burger
FAVORITE QUOTE: “There is no such word as can’t,” Ann Boudrot (my age group swim coach).
IF YOU COULD MEET ONE HISTORICAL FIGURE, IT WOULD BE: Ben Franklin, would be great to learn about early America and the founding of our country.
IF YOU COULD BE A NATIONAL TEAM-LEVEL ATHLETE IN ANY OTHER SPORT, IT WOULD BE: Handball. If I could be a pro it would be baseball, but they cut that out of the Olympics.

SARAH HASKINS
COLLEGE: University of Tulsa
HOW DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED IN THE SPORT? I saw the 2000 Olympics on TV and thought, ‘I could do that.’ I then finished my college running career and told my parents about it. My dad took me to a family friend who helped get me started in the sport.
PROUDEST MOMENT IN TRIATHLON: Representing the U.S. at the 2008 Olympics and winning a silver at the 2008 World Championships.
WHY IS TRIATHLON APPEALING? It is so different. Every day you get to train in three sports, and it never gets old. The races are in fantastic locations. I love the fact that anyone of nearly any age can participate.
HOBBIES: I like to drive my husband crazy by hogging the DVR at home. I also enjoy tennis, but don’t get to play too often.
FAVORITE BOOKS: I really like Jodi Picoult.
FAVORITE MEAL TO COOK: I do not cook at all. I love when my husband cooks and he can make just about anything. The best meal he makes is stuffed peppers or pot roast. I do love to bake however and I am a pro at brownies and Christmas cookies.

MATT CHRABOT
COLLEGE: George Mason University
PROUDEST MOMENT IN THE SPORT: Winning 2009 Huatulco World Cup.
FAVORITE TRIATHLON: Escape from Alcatraz. The conditions of the course and weather make it very challenging, and it’s a true test of who the best of the best is.
WHAT WOULD HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO REPRESENT THE U.S. IN THE 2012 OLYMPICS MEAN TO YOU? Everything in the world to me.
PRE-RACE SUPERSTITIONS: No, but I try to distance myself from grumpy people.
FAVORITE WORKOUT: Hill repeats on dirt trails
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME? Watch movies, play chess, guitar.
FAVORITE BAND OR MUSICIAN: The Offspring, Guns n Roses, Dispatch
FAVORITE QUOTE: Stop worrying about the last 2 percent and worry about the first 98 percent. The last 2 percent will take care of itself.
IF YOU COULD BE A NATIONAL TEAM-LEVEL ATHLETE IN ANY OTHER SPORT, IT WOULD BE: Downhill skiing
