Kemper, Haskins Earn USOC Athlete of the Month Honors
The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) honored triathlete Hunter Kemper as its male Athlete of the Month for April following a victory at the Ishigaki ITU Triathlon World Cup. One month later, the USOC named triathlete Sarah Haskins its female Athlete of the Month for May following three victories in three starts.


Kemper (Colorado Springs, Colo.), a USA Triathlon National Team member and three-time Olympian, broke away on the run to earn gold at the Ishigaki ITU Triathlon World Cup in Japan.


Haskins (Colorado Springs, Colo.), a USA Triathlon National Team member and Beijing Olympian, earned her first career ITU World Cup win in Monterrey, Mexico, and was victorious at two of the top domestic Olympic-distance races — the St. Anthony’s Triathlon in St. Petersburg, Fla., and the Capitol of Texas Triathlon in Austin, Texas.


Hunter Kemper, was named the USOC Athlete of the Month for April after winning the Ishigaki World Cup. He also placed third in Monterrey.


 


Baker Named to USAT Board of Directors
USA Triathlon announced May 16 that Charles Baker, a New York City-based sports and entertainment mergers and acquisitions attorney and an experienced age-group triathlete, has been named an independent representative on the organization’s Board of Directors.


Baker is a partner in DLA Piper’s corporate and finance practices. His practice encompasses all aspects of public and private mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and private equity transactions, with a core focus in the sports, media, entertainment and consumer sectors. Baker has represented buyers and sellers of franchises in every major U.S. professional sports league.


“We are excited that Chuck Baker is joining USA Triathlon’s Board of Directors. As a lawyer and a respected mergers and acquisitions specialist in sports, media and entertainment, Chuck has the background and experience that the Board needs to strengthen our legal and financial capabilities,” said USA Triathlon President Bob Wendling. “Our sport is rapidly becoming a force in the business and entertainment industry, and Chuck will play a key role in providing the required vision for the Board and, ultimately, the entire organization.”


Baker, who is an Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the New York City Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and a member of the Sports Committee of the March of Dimes, is a graduate of the University of Rochester and Cornell Law School.
